Need a New Rear End

Hi guys, since the last time I posted, a few things have changed about my truck. Instead of putting a cam, carburetor, and headers on my old 305, I found a small block 400 and I put those on it.

This is a two bolt main block that was cast on November 16, 1975, and assembled into a truck at the Tonawanda plant on December 21, 1975. It has the 76cc heads with hardened steel exhaust valve seats, and an aluminum intake manifold from a 78-79 Corvette L82. This motor is like one step down from the Holy Grail of 400s.

Now I'm having one hell of a time finding a 1971 or up 12-bolt rear end that either has 3:73-3:93 positrack differential, or that I can build.

If any of you guys can help me find a rear end that I can get to Portland, Oregon for a reasonable price, call me at the number below. Thanks.

Michael

Re: Need a New Rear End

I remember looking a couple years ago and nothing. Junk yards are dieing up here. I went to a ford 9 inch. For me is easier to fab up the rear without the center section and install center section later. I have a blazer so working on gears if I have to is alot easier . Gas tank in the way

Re: Need a New Rear End

Are you looking for a 12 bolt for your 82? If it has a 10 bolt in it now id suggest just build that. Its as strong or stronger than the 73 and up 12 bolt that would bolt into your truck. That and you will likely run into fitment issues with the drive shaft universal joint size. Just little things that are more annoying than costly .
