What’s this little box on the firewall for?

Truck is a 72, was a 6cyl/3speed and in the process of V8/auto swapping it. The bundle of wires run to it and a small square plug close to that box that I’m trying to identify.

transmission spark delay.
I had the same 6cyl/3speed in my 70.
You can forget it for a swap.
Unless you are going to a completely stock 1972 V8 set up.
