Knife valve for block drain plug.....

I heard of this to make easier for coolant drain......but would this type of valve be ok...i put a 1/4 galvanized nipple in the block then the valve onto the nipple.....I'm thinking to stay with my regular plugs since they came out easy and I don't plan on draining block much......picture is backwards sorry...

I wouldn’t trust it. Just gravity/engine vibration/potholes alone would jar that handle downward, and you likely wouldn’t know until the engine overheated.

If your gonna do that, put a pipe plug in the end of the valve

why do you need to drain the system so much is my question ?

x2 on vibration can move them if there to loose internally . i know med and big trucks run a screw type valve for heater core and filter flow control .

The only thing that come to mind is some one flushing the block out at the race track to cool down faster between rounds let it out faster. But have seen with old brass rad peacock drain, and hex brass plugs. With the one that on there if it all brass ball valve it would be better for leaks and last longer if your using it for race track. If you want it for less mess draining every 3 to 5 yr cleaning out the system the old brass rad peacock drain may be or would be best for you. If your not going to be using it drain that much do not care about mess then the hex brass plugs would be the best.

I use radiator petcock on my blocks for that, very convenient during break-in when using just water. Cuts down on the mess when pulling a block also.
