OK, I'm heading out the door to drive from Texas to Canada!
Wish me luck guys! I'm just leaving my hotel to drive this truck I bought down here back to Alberta. Hopefully all goes well! I'll try and get on here at night, and let you guys know how my progress is going. I'll also let you know how much gas this BB402 is guzzling.

When I bought my 71 Longhorn 1 ton 402, 4 speed, I asked the seller (after I paid him) about gas mileage. He said 10. I said empty? He said "empty, full, uphill, downhill, 10" He did not lie.

Hey ALL!!
Well I just got into a hotel here. I am 30 miles just south of the US/Canada border. I stopped in Denver last night, but couldn't get online. Anyway, the trip is going not too bad. Like stated, it sure has been quite a few tanks of fuel!! I think I am up to 9 tanks of gas so far! As for problems.....YUP!! I didn't make it 70 miles and the beast started chugging. A new fuel pump on the side of the road fixed that problem. Late in the day, it started to do it again. This time a simple adjustment to the points fixed it. Early this morning, all was going well, until it started snowing....then the points decided they needed to be adjusted again. Well I got a bit more out of them, but they are toast. Attempted to install the new set I had with me, but wouldn't you know it, wrong ones. So with some fiddling, and tweaking, I manage to make it to Billings, Montana. The local Checker's had a set, I threw them in, in their parking lot. All good again!! I make it about an hour, more chugging....DAMN! This blows!! Turns out the fuel filter was clogged. All fixed and away we go. No more problems the rest of the day. So the plan tomorrow is to drive to the boarder, and go toe-to-toe with customs for awhile, hopefully it won't be that bad. Should be home by mid-afternoon tomorrow. As for fuel milage.....I am getting around 10-12 mpg. And keep in mind, I have been doing 75-80 MPH the entire way!! Thanks for listening, I will post again when I get home. What an adventure!!! Reid, sounds like your doing great, I'm a little (ok a lot) envious of your road trip. Hopefully I'll have the same trip at the end of April from NM. Safe travels

Hey Reid, welcome home. Hope the registration paperwork I sent you worked out and you didn't have too many problems at the border. E-mail me when you get home and let me know how the trip was.

Hey all!
Well I made it home!! Got to my door at about 1:30pm this afternoon. I didn't have any more problems with the truck since my last post. It went good for the last leg of the trip. I found one thing out with the truck, it really like doing 80mph on the highway. That just seems like its favorite place to run. As for how far I went, 1939 Miles!! In 2 1/2 days. Thanks for all the encouragement guys, I will post pics later once I get all the road grim washed off! 80 mph??? You must have highway gears in that beast! Especially to get 10 to 12 mpg.
Glad you made it okay! Oh, BTW, you can start calling it "my" (as in "your") truck instead of "the" truck now! Hope she realizes how much you went through and treats you better for the rest of her life. She was just testing your patience the first day, I'll bet.

Well at least you have all of the minor tweaking done on the engine :P
How did things go at the border? Did you have to pay duty or tax? I only had to pay the tax on the amount I paid for the truck. I think I had a nice guy, because it went very well. He didn't give me the third degree or anything. I was out of there within 15 mins.
Oh ya, I also had to pay $100 fee, because it has air conditioning. Reid
