When do you consider when a truck is finished?
I need to get my underdash Pioneer 8 Track and Kris CB installed and I think... I will have my truck where I want it to be but, does one ever really get done with their truck?

Re: When do you consider when a truck is finished?
There's "finished enough" when I can drive and enjoy it. I don't know that "truly finished" ever exists, especially if you drive them.

I think they are finished when they drive down the road after you've sold it.

Re: When do you consider when a truck is finished?
I considered mine done when I sold my modern car and promoted my 1969 truck to daily driver. Anything more I do to it is just for fun. I was maintaining, fixing, and adding accessories to my modern car and that cut into my time and money for maintaining, fixing, and adding accessories to my classic truck. So it had to go, now things are twice the fun. So I think they are done when you rely on it.

My Wife asked me when I’ll be finished with my Truck. I told her “My last day on earth”

Re: When do you consider when a truck is finished?
It was “Finished” the day the truck rolled off the Assembly Line. Then, it went to the owner.
If you’re a shop, that builds trucks for clients, then you can say “Finished” when it goes to the customer. My truck? I’ve had her for going on 29 years, have all the parts needed to finish her, except for the paint, to “Finish” her. Will it ever happen? Still working on it |

Re: When do you consider when a truck is finished?
I don't know, my 1968 C10 is my daily driver for the past 22 years and it needs periauticul (spelling?) mantentince and replacing parts to keep her on the road.
Sorry for the misspellings.. I shouldn't post when I'm drinking beer....

Re: When do you consider when a truck is finished?
I think I've finished quite a few. Adding an accessory is no different on a finished restoration than on a new vehicle. I've enjoyed trucks I've finished for years after considering them done. On a restoration or 'build' I have a plan for what I want when it's done. That plan may change a bit along the way, especially if it's a long period of time, but once all that's done the job is complete

Re: When do you consider when a truck is finished?
I've heard people say when it comes to fixing up an old, possibly derelict vehicle like some of the ones I've done " where do you start?".
The big money, time, and labor question is however, " when do you stop". That answer is based on ability, budget, and ultimate goal. Do you want a trailer queen, or a daily driver you can tinker with. The funny thing is, it's easier to determine the end point with a trailer queen. The daily driver you can tinker with can just go on and on.

Re: When do you consider when a truck is finished?
Being and engineer, I have told my wife many times no project is ever totally complete, they are abandoned incomplete to move on to another project. I think purple gas is onto something. A trailer queen, show truck is easier determined "done" than a driver. I originally started with mine 2.5 years ago to "just get it going" and have now totally redone the suspension and steering, static drop, disc brake conversion, rear tank conversion, etc. I am much closer to being ready for the road but what I want done before that time seems to change a lot.

Re: When do you consider when a truck is finished?
I'll probably consider mine finished once I put it all back together after all the rust repair, bodywork, and new paint is finished. Then, as I continue to drive and enjoy it, everything else will most likely be regular maintenance.
I've been driving it a decent amount for the past 6 years of ownership. I've already done a fair amount of modifications that improve the driveability. I've fixed a couple rust items, but the cab is the major one which will pull the truck off the road for an extended period of time. Once that's done, the truck will be finished as I have it how I would have wanted it from the factory. It'll probably be at least another year or so before I end up starting on the rust repair

Re: When do you consider when a truck is finished?
I consider my truck done because I can turn the key and it fires right up and I hear the motor rumble. I never turn the stereo down. But I do for that.
People ask me when I'm going to paint it. Quick answer. I'm not. She's perfect in my eyes. I love my old girl as is. And I won't sell her no matter how much money people wave in my face. She's done. She's stuck with me. If you want to "Finish' it. Send it to Finland.

Re: When do you consider when a truck is finished?
You'll never truly be finished, when you have your truck exactly the way you want it and the paint shines like it's a brand new sheet of glass, something will go wrong or a flaw will pop up that you didn't notice before. So, you will never truly be finished with your truck. But, I consider it to be mostly finished as soon as you've got everything done that you can think of that need to be done with the truck.

There's plenty of great answers here, but this is what I was thinking when I started reading the thread.
