67 Experts: original automatic column ???

Need help identifying an original 1967 non tilt automatic column

Since I had always been just into 71-72's this original 67 stuff is very remote for me for originality. Since I had frame up restored a number matching 66 Chevy pickup a few years back and just recently aquired a new 67 project to do the same, I have noticed some apparently 1 year only stuff on the 67.
Are the automatic steering columns used in 67's a 1 year only style or is 68, 68, and 70 the same? I realize the powerglide indicator is different but is the column the same all these years and maybe the indicator/ shifter bowl changed in the 71-72? Also is the automatic shift lever different for 67 and also is it different from the 3 speed manual lever? I plan to start searching for an original 67 column for a turbohydramatic and want it to be 100% correct for the 67 year. If the 67-70 are the same it will make this a lot easier to find.

Thanks for any help shed on this subject.

I cant help with all your questions but 67's had a one piece shaft to the steering box. The later have a collapsible shaft inbetween.

John, I'll have to nix that about the one piece shaft. My stock '67 has the collapsable column/shaft. I believe it was the first year for it. Could have been a mid year change though. BTW my truck was my Grandads so I know the column/shaft has not been changed.

its possible that some of em had solid shafts and some collapsable because it was around that time the federal gov't forced to automakers to put collapsable shafts in all vehicles for safety

69 was actually the year that the feds mandated it...a 67 with it seems kinda odd to me, I have seen plenty of 68s with the solid shaft in them.

I have seen 67 literature listing the new safety features which showed the 2 piece rag joint column. I also remember that somewhere during the early model they used the old drag link style linkage and the frame was not notched for the new version steering gear box. So is the mid year 67, 68, 69, and 70 column the same?

Column, pointer/indicator, and shift lever yes, but as mentioned the shaft could either be 1 piece or 2 piece with an intermediate shaft.

That should be very easy to locate then as a lot more automatics started showing up in 69 and 70 it seems.
