Radiator Fan Shroud Repair
I have a pretty good sized crack in my radiator shroud. Should I replace or repair it? I've heard that the aftermarket shrouds aren't the best quality of fit. Can it be repaired to function properly as well as look nice?

Re: Radiator Fan Shroud Repair
You might research 3M products. They do have some really versatile adhesives that would probably repair that. As for the screen in the previous post. I remember them from the 60’s. Used to prevent rocks and bugs from contacting the radiator. Won’t restrict air flow. So no real reason not to use this vintage piece.

Clean the plastic and use the super glue and baking soda trick that Grumpy old man gave info about here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=791986
That's what I did for mine. |

I actually thought of possibly using epoxy to seal the crack then fiberglassing it from the back side for added strength. Anyone have experience with a particular brand of repop shrouds? |

I wonder if the sonic weld technique that is used on the new facias would work on that.

I’ll have to look into that. Never heard of it before.

Re: Radiator Fan Shroud Repair
Now that I read you first post more carefully I see the "look nice" part of your requirements. Super glue and baking soda does not look nice, it's pretty ugly, it is very functional and makes a super strong plastic.
From what I have read super glue is the glue of choice for plastics and rubber. I suggest clean the area and super glue it and let it dry. It is not a high stress area like the mounting ears, so it will probably hold with just the super glue. To make it extra strong you could use the super glue and baking soda on the back side. Here is the other ear where I sanded it and used a black magic marker on it to make it look better. So it is possible to pretty it up. |
