Re: 72 c10 alternator question
10 SI? Or did you want the 7 or 8 digit GM number?

Re: 72 c10 alternator question
Rock Auto shows that as the 2 groove pulley version. They also have the single groove version. Their price on either is only $32.99 including a $6 core charge. Shipping and sales tax is additional.

Re: 72 c10 alternator question
As you can see there are a bunch to choose from.
They go from lowest amperage to the highest at the bottom. |

Re: 72 c10 alternator question
Be aware if your truck came with the 37 amp alternator it has a different wiring harness than a truck that came with the 63 amp alternator.
This is not shown on any of the commonly available schematics. The 2 that I have parted the harnesses weren't in the best shape so I've never seen a complete unmolested one. But there are definite differences.

Re: 72 c10 alternator question
The most complete one I've seen appeared the have the same size wire but there were 2 of them coming off the alternator. One went to an insulated post (Same style as the one next to the battery) near the horn location. There was a second post a couple of inches from the one with a jumper wire between them and some other wires to the voltage regulator.
The other wire I assume went to the battery like normal but, the harness was seriously hacked and it wasn't worth saving so I trashed it. I wish I could come across a complete one to see how GM actually wired it. It is possible that GM just added a second harness to a regular 37 amp harness. I believe the extra posts were provided to allow customers a place to hook their large amperage loads near or at the junction point of the main harness where proper voltage sensing would occur.
