Husky tool chest
I have a small Husky tool chest with 8 drawers but as I'm getting more into classic trucks (68 IH pickup) my tool inventory is increasing. I've been looking at the 51" heavy duty tool chest. I'm wondering if anyone here has one and what are your thoughts on it? Or if you could recommend a different one that you like. I really like the Milwaukee tool chest but it is way too much money. Also, who makes a good socket organizer. I've been reading a lot of good reviews about Olsa magnetic socket organizers, I know they're expensive but may not ever have to buy another one again.
Thanks! |

Re: Husky tool chest
I'm tool and toolbox (poor)
I have bought many over the years. When I got into the Machinist trade. I bought some Used Kennedy boxes. I outgrown them at work and kept looking for a deal on another set of Kennedy's So I went to HF I really like the 44 In. X 22 In. Double Bank Roller Cabinet I purchased. It comes in lots of colors. It has double roller slides on the bigger drawers. I used the 10% off first time CC purchase deal. Then cut the CC up. I also bought it when there was a Special (Like that will be coming up at Christmas) Here's a Link. Link: https://harborfreight.com/44-in-x-22...sugg_q=toolbox

Re: Husky tool chest
Harbor freight here has a good selection of tool organizers ..we just put some in Dads tool box..
Those better quality tool boxes at harbor freight dont look to bad..but I have no experience with them At work they started giving us rock river tool boxes..very very nice stuff..comes from fastenal I'm fixing to replace all my tools..I've got such a mismatched bunch of stuff its ridiculous.. Gonna get new boxes and all.. Still on the fence about the boxes..but probably craftsman or rock river.. Leaning heavy to rock river I have 3 full size boxes, 2 craftsman and a Kennedy..1 of the craftsman is junk, the other one that has my machinist tools in it is a lot nicer..the Kennedy I have came from work ( for $20 ,cant turn that down) when they upgraded our tools and gave us the rock river boxes..the Kennedy is nice ,but the drawers are to shallow for my liking.. I like the deeper drawers

Yeah
I forgot to mention the socket rails. I have several on the socket rails. 1/4 , 3/8s and 1/2 inch. They have a strong magnetic. I like them also. Link: https://harborfreight.com/12-in-magn...ack-70035.html

Re: Husky tool chest
The Milawaukee is about as cheap as you really want to go. Rather it is Husky, Harbor Frieghts brands, or otherwise.
I have a larger Husky, and wish I went bigger. The only way I would buy smaller tool boxes or work tables. Is if you intend to buy multiples due to space issues, and or intended use. |

I get called out of the shop at work from time to time. They will stay still even with the drawer liner still in there. I don't think they have screw holes. I will try to get you pictures tommorrow. They would work great in the toolbox drawer. Also I would like to Add: HF has stepped up the Quality on the toolboxes. They are better than the ones several years ago. You can stand up in the bottom drawers

Re: Husky tool chest
Thank you!! I think I may take a trip to HF sometime...if fact, they're opening one up about 3 blocks from my house in a couple of weeks.

Re: Husky tool chest
I'll probably wind up with a couple different brands..theres some things I like that about different brands..I just need to get stuff that somewhat matches..like all sockets the same brand, all wrenches the same brand, all screwdrivers the same brand...you get the idea..
But I'm big on USA made , lifetime warranty, and ease of replacement..like craftsman used to be.. I know lowes sells craftsman now...so I'll probably have some of those I have a set of metric Stanley boxend wrenches that I really like..so that might be my wrenchs We use proto spline ratchet wrenchs at work, really like those.. So itll be a mixture
