4l60E Shift Linkage Questions

[Grizzly’69K10]

Putting a 2002 LM7 and a 2008 4l60e in ‘69 K10 would like to use the Lokar S-1804 cable shift linkage, however my transmission has the NSS mounted to the side, I see many photos without this and wondered if anyone had any experience with this particular part? After lots of reading I’ve seen mixed information and wanted to find out if this was an option? Any guidance is extremely appreciated.

As I under stand the NSS is used in the previous vehicle for NSS and back up lights. If you decide to use it the NSS can't handle any kind of amps. You need to run relays to handle the current for both NSS and back up lights.
Your Lokar cable shifter should have a NSS built in. I've had a similar Lokar cable shifter in my LS swapped 98 Wrangler and has worked really well for over 12 years. But it doesn't have backup light switch. I don't really care.
Per the tuner I use the stock NSS doesn't affect the engine tune or cause a CEL.

So I’m able to utilize the NSS that’s located in the steering column of a 67-72 without the need for adding relays? I must have been confused I thought the NSS module was needed on the 4l60e in order for the computer to allow the transmission to shift? I’ve done a lot of reading but the electronics I still get confused on, thank you for the quick response and the help I really appreciate it!

No, there's a switch on the valve body that tells the computer what gear the transmission is in. The external switch is neutral safety, back up lamps and to illuminate the digital gear position in the dash.

edit: what computer are you using? the 2008 transmission should have an input shaft speed sensor.

Does the Lokar shifter have switches in it? I went with the Winters shifter (with cable shift) and it has the two switches for nss and back up. I heard the factory switches on the side of the trans are low amperage and would require a relay if you used it for back up lights but maybe someone else could chime in on this.

I'm not familar with Winters shifter but if it has two switches the start wires should be hooked up when the switch is closed in park and neutral only. Back up light switch closed only in reverse.

These are the optional two switches that were pretty straight forward to add to the shifter.

I think the computer needs the trans shifter position to know when in drive (or something similar). I believe I retained one wire/circuit in the 4l60e switch.

Not saying to above isn't correct but on my LS swaps with a 4L60E (2002 fbody trans) the only connections from the trans to the ECM is the VSS and the plug that goes into the valve body.
