A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings
I found a really nice semi old-school headlight option for anything with 7" headlights.
I originally bought them as an upgrade for my Jeep and they are so good that I picked up a second set for the C10. These are quality glass housings, with good H4 bulbs, AND a pre-made relay harness. You can order them thru your local Toyota dealer, or online. Generally they cost around $50ish if you shop around. Part # 81110-60P70 Here's a link to an install on a TJ Jeep. https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/...ght-mod.55959/

Re: A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings
I have heard of the Jeeps stuff being used. Found these in the 60-66 area of the board. Toyota H4 kit is supposed to also be good and it comes with harness and all to do conversion.
https://cruiserteq.com/oem-toyota-ko...kit-w-harness/ Haven't got them on the 70 yet, but hopefully will get to it soon.

Yes, it comes with a nice relay harness. It’s the Toyota upgrade for the FJ40s

Re: A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings
I am not a fan of headlights with the cutoff beam half way through the light. I understand it helps cars in front of you and coming towards you, but I like the full headlight.

Lights that are 1000+ Lux with a poor beam pattern and no cutoff are not just annoying to everyone else, they are dangerous. Don't be that person.

Re: A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings
I bought Dapper OE7 with their 7" OE Glass upgrade. Cheap they are NOT, 100% satisfied I am. I even had a problem with one, getting a replacement bulb was easy as pie.

Re: A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings
The cutoff doesn’t mean they are putting out less light. Wattage is the same. The difference is that the light beam is more focused and actually puts more light on the road surface. Why waste light up in the trees instead of on the road?

I'm not sure we can still get Cibie 7" headlamps anymore, but the Hella stuff is very good, especially the European (not DOT) spec lenses. And you can always go to higher wattage bulbs as long as your wiring can handle the additional current. I also have to comment on the bluish bulbs. Blue light disperses like crazy, and while it can be seen from a long distance, it's terrible for lighting up the road in front of you, and just pisses off oncoming drivers.

As to 7" Cibie headlamps, I have had them for decades and love them. I prefer their beam pattern to Hellas. Yes, they are still available at Amazon of all places. https://www.amazon.com/Cibie-82440-H...s%2C140&sr=8-1 and https://www.amazon.com/Cibie-082440-...s%2C140&sr=8-2. Not sure why they are listed twice but it's the same item from the same seller at the same price. The second listing calls them fog lights (maybe for legal reasons?) but they are dual-filament H4 headlamps. Also, note that the second listing does not state that bulbs are included.

That's awesome. I should have researched those a bit more. I suppose if the Hellas ever get broken i'll get some of those.

Re: A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings
I was going to get the Hella for the truck I'm building but I got the Holley Retrobrights.
https://www.holley.com/products/exte.../parts/LFRB135 Haven't tried them yet. Might put them in my other truck just to try them out... That Toyota stuff looks like a hell of a deal! Last edited by Jason Banks; 12-19-2021 at 08:54 PM. |

Re: A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings
Yes. I have installed my 7" Cibies in at least three different vehicles without any issues. As with any headlamp (even stock), a relay upgrade is a plus.

Re: A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings
The Hellas have a similar light pattern as the cibie.
But I grew up with cibie in everything we had. Maybe have to get a pair. :/

Re: A quality alternative for H4 glass headlight housings
I don't -- there are different ways to do it, and you should use a method that you are comfortable with. There's plenty of threads here to search through and see what others have done. There are kits already made up and some guys prefer that. I went to a local parts store and got Bosch-style fused relays. I have plenty of wire & connectors and I soldered up a harness.

I wish they still made those Wrangler RT tires. They work great off road...
