1968 K10 rebuild #3
I Bought this truck about 7 years ago and it has been through a few stages. First it was lifted with 31s,
TH350, SBC 35 and had some rust. I fixed all the rust and painted it back to white. drove it like this for years Day I Picked it up after rust repair and fresh paint second redo of the truck was a NV4500 and 4BT cummins swap. this can be seen at the following thread link. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=725052 I drove it like this fo a few years and decided to go back to V8 gas power. I blew up the trans on the way back from picking up the replacement motor and ended up deploying for a year. it sat broken for almost 4 years. |

Re: 1968 K10 rebuild #3
Just curious, what is the purpose of the board full of nails facing up? (other than to cause a need for a tetanous shot....lol)

1st, thank you for your service. Good looking truck especially at the new length. Just curious about your gear ratios going from such a low end high torque setup to a 383 high end torque platform. Where do you think you will end up?

It had 373 in it with the 33's and 4BT cummins. the new gears are with the 40 inch tall tires are 5.13. with the NV4500 5speed it should have good low end and highway speeds.

Re: 1968 K10 rebuild #3
one thing that happened over the last few years of outdoor storage was a windstorm throwing
the stock hood about 200 feet from the truck. I am going to try and fix this. |

Re: 1968 K10 rebuild #3
The bed has the most rust in it. I got this to replace the long box
with the understanding that i have the long box for patch panels. all the rust it has i have the correlating part to weld in. over all it is not horrible for the south. you can see here it sat upside down for some time I will be replacing this header with my old long box one |

Re: 1968 K10 rebuild #3
Was able to put in some work over the last few weeks.
Tore the truck completely down to the frame. I then disassembled the bed I will look at the long bed parts I have and mix and match and then patch from the rust free long bed sides. had an issue with my cab removal hoist operation and luckily the front window I already planned on replacing was the only casualty of it. I made a dolly for the cab and pushed her into the garage. moved all the body that I don't want to get wet into the garage. |

Re: 1968 K10 rebuild #3
So after the body was removed I went thru the body to look for issues.
The first issue I found was the very front crossmember had sheared the rivets and was pulled forward four inches. this must have be done from a chain or something pulling the truck out before my time. The other side rivet was loose. Next Issue: both rear cab mounts looked like this I still need to weld in the plates I made. Ran out of Gas for the welder. To fix the crossmember issue I welded in the new leaf spring crossmember in solid and plated the frame and made braces. this is ten times as strong as before. Then rolled it out pressure washed it and painted it with chassis paint. |

Re: 1968 K10 rebuild #3
I then moved on to the motor. It is a 4 bolt main .30 over chevy 350 block. the specs are: 383 forged crank,
590 600 inch lift cam, roller rockers, 72cc ported heads, 150cc domed Wiesco pistons. 11.1 compression ratio. The carb is a 750 CFM with a Edelbrock performer RPM intake and a MSD ignition. Between the motor I bought with a lot of the extras and the new parts I am only at $900 on this combo. Motor came complete just redid the internals. should be good for around 500HP and the same TQ or more. Cleaned the block up and checked everything. Ordered a 383 summit crank and Wiesco 150cc dome pistons. I now had 383 cubic inches. With these pistons and the 72 CC heads i have 11.1 compression ratio. I put the flywheel clutch and trans onto the motor and got ready to put it in the chassis. |

Re: 1968 K10 rebuild #3
Next Step is to fire the motor up and finish the exhaust. then onto the body work .
