Angry Did I get ripped? 292 clutch link q's

I went and pulled this linkage for my 292 I-6
on Friday, and was lucky to find the pieces.
The bracket that mount to the engine seems to
be a weak point and is not available thru LMC.

When I brought everything to the counter, he
says $35. I wasn't happy with the price, but
didn't say anything, instead asked what he
wanted for ps gear box. $75 was the price.
Told him all I brought was $100. He wouldn't
take it. I didn't go back for the ps box.
You'd think $10 wouldn't be that much for a
place that doesn't take checks or credit cards.

Went to another yard on Saturday and got the
ps gear box for $65 from some guys I've done
business with before.

Sorry for the rant.

I should have asked before I bought the linkage,
but what are my options? I'm thinking of cleaning
up the welded bracket and using it.

The rod that comes thru the firewall
is also worn (as they all seem to be).
Any solution for this? Custom fab a rod
with a sealed cartidge bearing sounds
good to me.

Degrease everything thoroughly and weld up all of the worn spots. Then, grind the welds down to the proper shape.

On worn holes, I weld it completely closed, grind its smooth on both sides and redrill the new hole.

This part is half worn away.

I'll see if I can build it up by welding it
and make it round again. I'd like to put a sealed
bearing in this joint, or at least a brass bushing.

It should be better than new when I call it good.

All right Hafton, I can see you're a pervert when it comes to fixing stuff. That's okay though, you're not alone. I too am an obsessive pervert when it comes to improving simple stuff.

Here's what I would do: You can buy a female threaded rod end from Summit. Cut the end off of the rod and then cut some thread on the rod. Finally, screw the Summit rod end on. Then hold the rod end to the z-bar with a Grade 8 bolt and locknut.

Congrats, you now have a bearing clutch linkage. Total cost under 10 bucks.

Firefighter - LOL, what a choice of words!

Thanks for the tip though, I hadn't looked around at hardware yet. That threaded rod end looks perfect!

Yeah, I seem to do a restomod on every vehicle I get. This was supposed to be a work vehicle. But it has to be reliable.

Is there a smiley for a pervert?

Probably wears sunglasses....
