Boyds Welding Fuel Tank

I have this tank installed on my 66.
I am confused on the the 1/2 inch NPT vent. This is the rollover vent I think.
The other port 5/8 inch is for a vacuum canister.

I am installing a remote fill on the bed fender. See photo what i was planning. So should my remote fill have a port added then run a hose from that to the 1/2 inch brass fitting??

Regarding the 5/8 port; i dont plan on running a vacuum canister unless i have to; so just plug that port??

Re: Boyds Welding Fuel Tank

The brass fitting sticking up is a roll over valve, it can be used as a vent easily, in the event of a roll over, it closes and doesn’t let fuel out. The other port…? You may want to call the manufacturer and question them….

Re: Boyds Welding Fuel Tank

Typically, you want to vent the tank at the highest point, including the filler neck.

That doesn't sound right. Unless I misunderstood what was being said.

If you do that wouldn't you just be recirculating the fumes instead of venting it. I think you need to plug both holes on the top of the tank and run the vent from the bung in the filler neck into the open air through a hose. Make sure the vent hose has a couple of loops in it which will keep the smell of gas from escaping.

Don't you connect a vent hose from the filler neck to the tank?

I have attached another version of the side fill tank with a secondary smaller tube next to the 2 inch. Mine is like this one without the smaller tube

I know the brass port is a rollover vent but should go to something

Second figure is from boyds website
Regarding the vent line connection
Thus why im confused

Re: Boyds Welding Fuel Tank

I think the idea is when i fuel the tank remotely, as the fuel is placed into the tank, the vapors have to be pushed out and is circulated. i was going to use a vented fill cap as well

Re: Boyds Welding Fuel Tank

It might also be that if it is that low on the side there might be a tendency for the gas to slosh back up the filler neck and this would provide a place for it to go rather than out the cap which could ruin your paint.

Re: Boyds Welding Fuel Tank

on the rollover vent. there is mention of the old style vacuum carbon canister.
any suggestions or ideas on that?
im using this filler cap instead. its a 1.5 inch filler pipe with an an overall of 2.5 inches. this fits perfectly on the top of the rear bed fender.
