hey everyone. need a solution to mounting altenator on bbc in camaro clipped truck . show some pics of short water pump setups.

Alan Grove has made them for years but they aren't Fancy shiny billet ones.

hey 48 was just looking at theirs probably the way to go dont need bling need function.

Most of the cars those big blocks with short pumps came in had real low hoods and the trucks had a lot of room out to the sides of the engines.

i found a photo of a billet on but the Ebay link had expired.

easier to sort with engine sitting in frame.looks like allan grove it is as i need to do AC as well.

Big Block Chevy Camaro Clip... that's me...

Short water pump/ alt mount.

Post # 349 in my build thread shows mine using a Corvette alt mount set-up.

thanks jim what year corvette are those brackets? how had was it to do stainless on door panels?

I purchased those for a 1965 396 years ago. I think that bracket style was used for most of the big block Corvettes.

Oh the Stainless steel work. Patience, patience. So very well worth the effort and a great skill learned along the way.

Lets see, it took a torch for heat to bend, drilling, tapping, welding, grinding, extra taps, quality emory cloth, very fine sandpaper and polishing compound.

I will attack this type of project, I know now if I have a tricky project ahead of me, I look back at my past and use the difficult accomplishments to encourage myself to push forward.

was the stainless dia 1/4 " or 5/16"?

I used 1/4 inch. I believe I found the stainless rod at Amazon.

BBC with short pump

I run the alternator off the power steering pump only which has a double pulley.

Doesn't that put too much stress on the snout of the PS pump?

Well, I have had it this way for a while --8K miles - and like it. Solved my Old-Air problem. The ac-delco pump shaft runs in a bushing that is bathed in steering fluid. I pull 2 diff directions so with properly tensioned belts maybe no more than usual. Just info --the pulley on the steering pump is the same size as the crank pulley.

So does it reduce the pump life by how much? --- maybe, dunno, will tell you sometime. Maybe someone knows.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
