Getting SS AN fittings started on the hose.
I have had a terrible time getting Stainless Steel AN fitting started on the hose.
I have tried the internet stuff like taping the ends before cutting them to length. I finally found something that works really well. It saved the ends of my fingers and speed up process immensely. Take a small hose clamp and install it where the cut needs to be. Use a friction blade cut right next to the clamp. Remove clamp and start hose end. I have included pictures of both the taped end and of the one cut with the hose clamp installed. Hopefully It will help someone out there. |

If you don't have a cut off saw use a real fine tooth hack saw blade.

If you do not have a small hose clamp a zip tie will work also

Re: Getting SS AN fittings started on the hose.
I like the hose clamp idea. I used the tape method and it can come out looking just like yours sometimes. The clamp gives u a nice straight edge to cut against, instead of a tape mark. One thing I found that helped was after cutting, take something as simple as the back end of an ink pen to go around a few times on the inside. This will “round” it back up some and can make easier to get your fitting on.

Re: Getting SS AN fittings started on the hose.
That is a good idea, but does the SS covering spring after you remove the clamps to install it in the fitting?
We made hoses all the time at a place where I used to work. I always use a good brand of masking tape that is taped very tight to the hose. I then cut through the masking tape. The tape you have looks to be plastic? The real issue though is the hose. Cheap hose is a nightmare. Good hose is a dream. |

I have posted a picture after the clamp was removed. The wires tended to stay together for the most part. The heat from the cut tended to distort the tape.

Another option is to buy the hose assembly kit from some where like Summit. I don't have one but they seem to get good reviews.
