1967 C10 cigarette lighter socket

Hey fellas, I’m trying to piece my 1967 C10 together, garage burned about 6 months ago, I lost all of my parts but I didn’t lose my truck.

I’m currently trying to get my interior put together and I’m quickly learning how different the 67 is to the 68-72.

Can anyone confirm that the 1967 cigarette lighter socket is smaller in dia then a 68-72?

I am trying to install the one that came in my AAW wiring kit and it won’t physically fit into the hole in the dashboard

All of the kits online show 67-72, I don’t see anything 67 specific. I know the knob on the actual lighter is different but I’m just wondering if someone can confirm that the socket is and if perhaps the 66 body style is the same?

So much is different that I didn’t even realize. Ignition retainer etc all 1 year only, seat belt bolts are even a different thread pitch

I had a 68-72 cigarette lighter in my old '67. I can't remember if the socket was the original or if it was 68-72.

Mine is identical to yours, the socket is what doesn’t fit in the hole.

If you look the 68-72 trucks actually have a dimple in the dash around the socket too

I think you can just leave off the large aluminum trim piece that fits in the dimple on 68-72 dashes.

The socket itself doesn’t fit in the hole, the hole is a smaller dia I tried haha

I might try ordering a 66 I suppose see if they were a smaller Dia.

Up here in Canada your lucky to find one of these let alone a 67

Are you able to post a photo of the socket? Did you unscrew/remove the sleeve from the back of it?

yup the stainless trim is not used on the 67 dash but the cig socket itself should slide right in.

An actual '67 lighter is a one year only item. The lighter element has ridges around it to match the '67 headlight, wiper and radio knobs. Also, it doesn't have the large trim ring used on the 68-72 trucks (they have a recessed area around the lighter hole in the dash to allow for the trim ring). The '67 lighters are not reproduced but are pretty easy to find here on the forum or on fleabay.

Here is an actual '67 lighter assembly (minus the wire). The part in the middle goes in from the front then the part on the far right screws onto the middle part from behind the dash. Hook up the wire and push the element in from the front and your done. I believe you can make a (factory) 68-72 lighter work as described above, just leave out the big trim ring that comes with the 68-72 assembly. I believe the receiver (middle part) and lighter element on aftermarket lighters are a different diameter than factory.

I have a 68-72 lighter socket in my 70 and a 67 lighter element does not fit properly nor will the button stay in when pressed. I have 67 knobs in it so I found a 67 lighter element to match, because I like them better than the 68-72 style.

Sorry McKenna, I have multiple OEM 68-72 lighters and one aftermarket. I remember that the aftermarket is a different diameter than the OEM units. Unfortunately I don’t have any 67 lighter parts or a 67 dash or I would provide the diameter measurements.
