steel wheel offset

Did the factory steel wheels have different offsets between the front and rear?

Re: steel wheel offset

Not that I’m aware of. Are you having issues of some sort?

Re: steel wheel offset

I am trying to piece together a set and I bought some mid 70s gm
Van wheels without noticing the difference in offset

Someone local to me said they had different offsets in the front and back
But I thought that was wrong since the front ends have a wider track

The top picture is the van wheel - this has about .5 less offset

The bottom picture is an original wheel

Re: steel wheel offset

The only time I have seen a difference in back spacing is in different size diameter rims, 16" verses 16.5" and 17", 17.5"

Re: steel wheel offset

Not sure if you are working with a drum or disc 3/4 ton, but if its drum, be very careful of clearance caused by offset, or rivets vs welded. Some cause very slight distortion of the drum that causes endless headaches and eventually ruins very hard to get drums (ask me how I know).
Hope this helps
Tom

Re: steel wheel offset

They are the same within the same vehicle, as in front to rear. They would "have to be" to do the typical X shape tire rotation.

However vans are different from trucks, they are usually narrower too.

Re: steel wheel offset

Vans came with flatter wheels, more backspace. Same with the 5-lug van rallye wheels being 7"
