1969 cab and frame

On my way to buy this today. It’s gonna be a father and son project, but it’s a long wheel base. He is wanting a short wheel base, but I’ve shortened them before so it’s no big deal to me. What do you all think?

It is, the previous owner bought all bell tech lowering parts all the way around and has already cleaned the frame up and put a coat of chassis black on it. It does have a little bit of rust over the windshield on the inside and the typical rusted rockers and floor boards for this area. My son is excited and ready to get started on the build!

They are the camper emblems and he's not gonna use them. I put them up on WIW. I figured someone may be looking for them. And yea, I'm glad it had the 68 front end, just missing the grille.

Re: 1969 cab and frame

Found a 68 grille, radiator support, hood and driver fender that has been in storage since 1990. Have to drive about 9 hours round trip but the price made the trip worth it. Scored it all for $400.00

Re: 1969 cab and frame

Here is some better pics of the parts score for yesterday. Still looking for a bed floor and header panel for a short wheel base and will have what we need for this truck which belongs to my son. I have everything I need for my truck for the most part. Looks like we will be building 2 at the same time.

Re: 1969 cab and frame

Nice score. You may have to scavange a lwb bed and cut it down. Sell off the bedsides and get most of your $ back. Here is a couple of shots that show the cuts and finished product of the truck I am building. You can slick it as much as you like, but mine is an org paint build.

Re: 1969 cab and frame

I told him we may have to go that route. You take 12” out of the front and 8” out of the rear?

Re: 1969 cab and frame

Yeah. Here it is upside down. You make sure you leave where the factory bolts drop in. You can look at this picture and tell where you cut. Build you a nice 40 dollar table to work off of. I have 14 hours and one or 2 cutoff discs and my mig wire in mine. Beats the heck out of a thousand bucks for a tiawan floor.

The ad said no title. That would be a no sale for me. No problem for where you are at though?

In Kentucky if you buy out of state you can apply for a classic title, almost like a salvage title in a way. When you get the classic title back you take the truck when it is road worthy and have it inspected by the local sheriffs department and then they will send a title to you on the truck in your name. I just made sure to get a bill of sale and the sellers info for the paperwork.

Re: 1969 cab and frame

Title work is finally started, we took all the paperwork with the truck to the sheriffs department for the inspection. Then took the notarized bill of sale with the application for Kentucky certificate of title, and vehicle inspection paperwork to the clerks office. The cost of the inspection was $25.00 and the classic title cost was $15.00. So now we wait to see if it will be accepted and if so we will start the build process on the truck.

Re: 1969 cab and frame

Funny how I am in NC scouring for the same set up. I missed this one. And it seems every good deal I see is in West Virginia and Kentucky. LOL

Good luck. Memories and stories will be made.

Here is mine. I did the same thing with my son when he was 13-14. We bought a 69 SWB 4WD 292/3spd/T-221. It was rough but we drove it home. He was hell bent on starting that night. He was up early the next morning ready to start on the truck. We were sanding on the roof and it was maybe 98 degrees with high humidity here in NC that day. He said he was walking over to Nanny's to get a gatorade. I said bring me one back too. I'm still waiting. LOL

His interest faded from 13-14 but it gained speed at 15 when the ability to drive was coming near.

Now he is hooked like the rest of us. We are going to do a SWB LS project together now.

Good luck with the truck.

My son has always liked cars and trucks but he also liked video games. Up until he was old enough to drive he was glued to the games. But since he has been driving he has been more interested in cars and trucks. We have done several Ls swaps on various vehicles since and he is now 23 years old. We built his second truck from the frame and he kept it through high school until about 8 months ago. He traded it off and I really didn’t know how to feel about it. He has traded a couple times since but now has a truck he likes pretty good. I guess it was where we built it together and the sentimental value to me that I didn’t know how to deal with it. But I have since got over it because I guess you can’t keep them all. I am looking forward to memories that come from this build.
