Big block fan shroud
looking for some measurements if anyone has a 454 fan shroud. trying to see what the opening for the fan looks like. I swapped an 85 454 bb radiator in my 67 with 5.3 ls motor. trying to see if I can use the bb shroud
thanks in advance!

Re: Big block fan shroud
I can get you some pics of the shroud/top plate set-up I purchased for my dually but couldn't use. it's apparently for the 81-87 style BB radiator set-ups because it's different vs. my '89 so I didn't use it.

Re: Big block fan shroud
sure that works. when you say top plate..is this a 2 piece shroud?
heres how i had to do my rad mounts since this bb radiator was a little taller than my 67 core support

Re: Big block fan shroud
this is the shroud listed on ebay for a mid 80's bb that im hoping would work. it looks very shallow and the opening for the fan looks bigger than the small block shrouds

Re: Big block fan shroud
Here's some images I grabbed @ lunch. There is an additional metal 'top-plate' that attaches to this 2pc assembly. In the last 2 pics, you can see where they're riveted together & there's a p/n on one side.
I got the 3pcs through LMC but they're not like the OE stuff under the hood for my 89 Squarebody dually. I just cleaned the OE stuff up as best I could & went w/it.

Re: Big block fan shroud
no problem at all. I haven't owned a square body since I was 17 and it sure as hell wasn't a big block lol.
can you also measure the top mounting holes? I'm wondering if they are close to my modified hold downs

Re: Big block fan shroud
i noticed the drivers ear on my shroud is missing a chunk...all stock except for the aluminum rad-which was a direct bolt-in

Re: Big block fan shroud
the rad mounts are at 1", 2", then 28 1/2" and 30 1/2". maybe allow a 1/8 for my unsteady hand when measuring...
the shroud mounts are at 1", the middle one is at 13 1/4, and the last one is at 26", again, give or take a hair on my measurements |

Re: Big block fan shroud
so from the driver side shroud mounting hole to the passenger side shroud mounting hole is roughly 25"? mine is 29". why is this so hard! lol. im guessing the square body locations arent as close to the 67-72 as i thought. mine are a little off though since i had to cut and raise the stock rad mounts...they also move in/out a little so i could line up the part the grab on with the cushions.

Re: Big block fan shroud
sorry, my mistake, when i said the first bolt is at 1", that was from the edge of the shroud, the distance between the 2 shroud bolt holes is 26"

Re: Big block fan shroud
no biggie...still way off. im thinking the best option is to try and make my stock shroud fit. the fan fits in the hole...but just barely....and it needs to be dropped maybe an inch? im thinking no matter which bb fan shroud i find, it will have the mounting measurements you listed, or close to it, which be at least a few inches off.
oh well...we tried. thanks you 2 for your help
