Re: Please ID Trans

Its not a SM420- it looks to be a 'crash box' or sliding gear or simply the GM four speed transmission, the unsynchronized trans used before the SM420 came out. There should be a stamped code on the case at the rear edge of the top cover.
Is the case casting number 590474?

Re: Please ID Trans

Ford F series big truck + 1-1/2 ton or larger transmisison with the hogshead for a flathead.

This is the Hogshead that is on my Ford Flathead.

I've got two of those 4 speeds out of pickups, One that I bought and one that is about in as bad of shape as that one that came with a 52 F-1 chassis that I stripped some pieces off and sold but kept the trans for the hogshead.

That hogshead that bolts to the front of the transmission is worth from 50 to over 100 to flathead guys who use it with an aluminum adapter plate to bolt an S-10 T-5 to a flathead.
The adapter plate, this is one that I bought from Dwight Bond bolts to the hogshead and the transmission bolts to it.

I thought I had a photo of one of those 4 speeds but will have to take some in the morning.
