Side Marker or Tailight fuel filler?

I like the idea of side marker or taillight gas fill mods, but getting the cap off seems way to cumbersome. Has anyone tried this type of gas cap?

I am planning on using that same cap on my tail light fuel filler on my blazer. That’s probably many months away from being done though. So how well it works in reality is to be seen?

I hope someone that’s actually using one speaks up.

I’m using that cap on a side marker light filler and it works great.

Re: Side Marker or Tailight fuel filler?

I was wanting to go with the side marker light fill but after looking it over the fellow installing my rear tank suggested a rear corner box filler. I told him to do it and am happy with the results. He used a gas fill tube from a wrecked 1990 Burb that had the vent tube attached. I decided to leave the cab fill cap in place and I've taken the truck to a few shows since the rear tank install and no one even notices it in the box corner.

Re: Side Marker or Tailight fuel filler?

Here is mine. Still not 100% finished. One of the new capless fill styles. They come on a lot of new cars now and are pretty easy to find/remove from junkyard cars.

Could you explain how you made your side marker light fuel filler set up and what all did you use to make it all work?

This style of cap makes it so much easier, it seals itself tight, and no hassle sitting it down and for getting to put back on. I used this set up when doing my stepside and it worked out well.

Re: Side Marker or Tailight fuel filler?

Ford has had this style of cap for many years. My 2020 Silverado has a similar style cap.

Re: Side Marker or Tailight fuel filler?

With the modern bellows type nozzles in gas stations where I am located, cannot see either of the options mentioned desirable to me. I just integrated a fuel door in bed side for ease of use. All vehicles have a fuel fill. IMO a door on the fill location is less obvious than the stock fill location. Will look stock to anyone not knowing the difference and "custom" to someone who knows.
My wife's newer Blazer has one of the caps you fill through without removing. Expecting to replace in the near future due to leaks causing an emissions fault.

No I did not, did this a few years ago, also hid the bolts that hold the bed on the frame which I thought gave it a cleaner look.

Good comment, I didnt even think about the weird filler via the pump.

Already Gone, yours is one of the nicest ones so far, but it still leaves the fuel cap in the bed.

Re: Side Marker or Tailight fuel filler?

I put mine in the rear post hole. I used a pop up motorcycle filler cap to give it a flush look. I went this way because mine is a '67 so I don't have side marker lights. Also wanted to have access to fill it when I'm hauling something.
