Which locking hubs to use?

Hello! I recently purchased a 1965 K10 with the step-side long box. I am having trouble with the locking hubs. The passenger side will disengage just fine, but the drivers side will not...They look to be original and I'm not sure if the springs inside are weak or what but it seems like it will not allow the splines to completely disengage.

I'd be fine keeping them if anyone has suggestions on how to make them work as I won't be using 4x4 often. But if I was to replace them does anyone know if the Mile Marker 104's would work on a '65? When I try to cross reference their products it seems like most of their stuff starts in '67.

Any info would be helpful, this truck is mashup of a few different years so I am playing catchup!

Thanks

To be honest I'm not sure of the brand. I'll try to get a picture tonight. But I believe they are the old aluminum originals. You remove a snap ring on the inside rim of the hub and they slide right out.

Re: Which locking hubs to use?

I finally got a chance to look at the hubs the other night. Looks like they are Hub Lok. Will the Mile Marker 104's work as a suitable replacement? Or can anyone suggest another suitable replacement?

Re: Which locking hubs to use?

The research that I have done for my 66 K-10 has shown that only the Selectro hubs will work. I could be wrong, but I believe for the 1/2 K trucks you are limited to either the original hubs, or the Selectro brand. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than I can chime in.

Re: Which locking hubs to use?

Have you taken these apart yet ? If not damaged they probably just need cleaning and greasing . Thats usually all it needs.

Re: Which locking hubs to use?

I have taken them apart but not cleaned and greased yet. The problem is only on one side even though they look identical and nothing appears to be broken. Is it possible for the wavy spring type washer to get flattened slightly from years of use and not bump the splines out far enough to disengage?
