Patina Wrap

Saw this on the inter-web and thought it would be of interest to some. The truck was done with a full 3M wrap and won second place in some contest for the wrap.

Re: Patina Wrap

Maybe he could wrap the wheels so they look chipped and rusted! Or how about "cracked glass" wrap for the windows?

Re: Patina Wrap

At the Tri five nationals every year, we try to park in the same spot. There is a super RARE 55 Chevy pace car vert that parks with us from Cinncinatti. It wears its org rust and faded, chipped paint like proud battle scars. This guy has a buddy with another worn, faded , chipped pace car with patina for days. We somehow noticed while being bored one day, the last car I mentioned had reproduction rear qtrs. There is a way to tell quickly by glancing. Anyway, I asked and it is a fake pace car with a heck of a fake patina paint job done in S Ohio. It is hard to pull off that look, although this wrap job you posted doesn't look too bad. There is still no substitute for mother nature.

Re: Patina Wrap

Only thing I can say about it is, it's one way of driving a rusty old truck without it actually being a rusty old truck..

[EDIT after seeing closeup pics] Rusty, yet shiny??? I don't get it..

Re: Patina Wrap

Is it me or my eyes? The trim is part of the wrap too? It definitely looks like real rust on the monitor. That's pretty impressive for a wrap IMO.

Re: Patina Wrap

I don't know the processes involved with automotive wrapping, BUT I bet there is some real talent involved with what they did to that truck. I'll like to see it up close and personal even though wraps aren't for my projects. It looks very convincing in the photos!

Derek on Vise Grip Garage recently wrapped a 1974 Monte Carlo. You can check it out on YouTube. Just search for Vise Grip Garage and scroll down through his vids. He posted it not too long ago.

BTW, if you don't watch Vise Grip Garage, you really should check it out. He shows a lot of common sense, practical ways to fix things. If you're a do-it-yourselfer like me, it is worth watching.

Note, I am in no way associated with VGG but if you're looking for something on YouTube that you won't have to turn the volume down on if your kids or wife are in the house, this is one channel to check out.

^ What does that have to do with a vinyl wrap, or even a facebook channel?

I can find way more reasons to appreciate this, than I ever could to poo poo on it.

Finding a clean sun faded example with undamaged original sheet metal is just as hard as finding someone who does flawless paint at a good price.

This is impressive art work. Not the same as the real thing for sure, but I don’t think that’s the point in this case. Very talented people behind this.

Re: Patina Wrap

A friend recently had his xt4 caddie “wrapped” but the process wasn’t a traditional stretched over wrap. His was painted on vinyl that lasts for about 5 years and can be peeled off at any time. That may be how these “wraps” are done. It is basically a patina paint job in vinyl. Maybe….

I am curious about the talent required. I was guessing the wraps are generated from a photo of the real thing. Does anyone know for sure?

I agree completely!!! If you have not seen a VGG episode you mahzelle crack open a cold snack and enjoy!!! It’s family friendly. If you have YouTube TV, that would be the best!!! I do not...
