Spare Tire Bracket
Thinking about making a spare tire mount inside the bed behind the driver, in front of the rear wheel well, standing by the bed rail. Any one have some photos of what they built ?

Re: Spare Tire Bracket
An inside the bed spare tire bracket was offered as RPO P13 I believe for just such a location. Do a search of "inside the bed spare tire mount" and should come up with several pics. I have had one in my 71 4x4 for a good many years. Like it much better than an under bed spare mount. Besides, I need my gas tank which is under the bed instead of in the cab, LOL.

Re: Spare Tire Bracket
Is your tank still in the cab?
Mine is so bear with me (70 LWB) I picked up a wind up Spare tire hanger, that pulled off a Tahoe in the Pull a Part. I have to fab a racket to mount it to, an I’ll fab a bracket to hold the tire, in case the cable happened to fail. Just an idea for you ![]() |

Re: Spare Tire Bracket
That is what I'm going to do. fab up a bracket and use a newer cable type winch for the spare tire. Also looking into adapting a window motor to make it an electric setup.

Re: Spare Tire Bracket
OP is specifically asking for in bed spare tire mount. I think that they are a really neat look and easy to get to if you need it. Well unless you have a load of dirt filling up the rear lol.

Re: Spare Tire Bracket
Thanks everyone, anybody know a vendor that sales the RPO P13 inter bed mount ?
I was thinking of the mechanical winch under the bed, $40 for the winch online. I am hoping for some thing quick and clean. Not an all day/weekend project

Re: Spare Tire Bracket
I bought a kit from LMC, but I put it behind the left rear tire, as once the camping gear goes in, it would be tough to get at.

"I'm not a big fan of the stock tire carrier. You could whip up something like I did on the cheap. I've got $20.00 something bucks invested in this. The winch came off a Mitsubishi truck. Some scrap metal, little welding, some bolts & nuts, and no more cussing the stock set-up! I set it up so the crank rod is on the passenger side of the truck. Painted it yellow so I can find it in the tool box." |
