New to me 68 C20

These things are like potato chips...you can’t have just one. Found this original 68 near me. These things don’t happen often in my area. She’s a little rough around the edges, but a nice old rig. 307 engine, 4 speed, and the ridiculously low geared Eaton(?) I believe. I definitely need to get the correct seat cover back on it if anyone knows exactly what I need to be looking for. It’s also got a healthy set of helper springs on the rear axle. Are those front ones factory?? Was 68 the last year for those style cab lights? I’ve been wanting an “all weather” driver. We all love pics, so here are a few.

Mike as I mentioned on your FB post, that is an awesome original truck that is hard to find in our area, especially in original, not messed with, not completely rusted/ragged out condition. Congrats.

Thanks! Couldn’t agree more. When you look at so many, you just know when you find a good one. Looks like we might have some nice weather next week. I’m dying to roll up my sleeves, and get to cleaning!

Thanks Joe! She’s got a little weight reduction, but the bones are all still good. It’s as good of a truck that you can ask for around these parts.

Re: New to me 68 C20

So COOL! I love an original black 68, even though the paint typically didn’t weather well. Something awesome about it. That even has most the trim and hubcaps.

The seat would have been this material and color, but separated into two parts in the pattern of the white/gold pictured below…

Thanks for the info. That red looks beautiful. I contacted SMS. They have the material, now I’ve just got to decide weather or not to pull the trigger. It’s very much lipstick on a pig at this point, but I don’t know where I’m going to find the correct cover cheaper.

Wow what a beaut, I will trade you for mine.

I have to imagine black with red interior was not common, I haven't seen many like yours.

Re: New to me 68 C20

If you do the seat cover (I’d be tempted too), you’ll want to do that steering wheel next…

You’re 100% correct! Where does it end haha. Here is a sample I was emailed from SMS. The 68 sales literature shows the pattern running horizontal. I just want to make sure that is correct.

If you don't want the steering wheel, give me a price, and if I can swing it I'll buy it. Shipping might suck though.

Re: New to me 68 C20

Great find! Looks like it's pretty solid. That thing was built for some real heavy duty work.

I gotta say, that's the first 67-72 truck I've seen with a FACTORY rear step bumper. I didn't even know there was such a thing. Pretty unusual option I think.

Re: New to me 68 C20

Is this clear plastic wrap like they put on seats to preserve them? I’ve never seen that on sun visors?

I’ve not seen the seat wrap in person, but the plastic on the visors does appear to be factory. I’m sure it’s brittle, so I’m going to be careful about using them!

Good point. Most were dealer add-on, which I always thought were neat with the dealer name stamped into them.
