Rear drum missing spring

Hello,

I rebuild the rear brakes on my truck. I found nearly everything. But i didn’t find the strut spring for the emergency brake strut.

Do i translate it wrong? Because I’m from germany or isn’t there nowhere some on stock?

Re: Rear drum missing spring

The strut spring isn't generally found in the spring kits, for some reason. You can purchase them separately, but I don't know about that in Germany.

Search for anti-rattle strut spring.

Look here.

Re: Rear drum missing spring

I’ve used a light duty spring like in this link to make my own.
Stretched out, flattened a bit and bent a couple pigtails on it.
Worked great.
Hardware stores have them.

Re: Rear drum missing spring

My friend rebuilding his 1956 C10 just ran into the same thing. Purchased a spring kit and the strut spring wasn't included.
Maybe should call it a spring kit -1?

That spring broke on my dana 60 the brake adjuster keep on adjusting til it unthreaded itself.
Killed shoes and the drum. Ended up cutting the drum off with a torch.

Re: Rear drum missing spring

I don't think that I have ever seen that spring in any kits, and I've installed hundreds of kits, over my lifetime.

Re: Rear drum missing spring

I ran into this issue when doing the brakes on my 67 a couple years ago. After an exhaustive search I got an older guy at O'Reilly that really dug in and helped me out. He looked through some books and made a few phone calls. Ended up what I needed as actually on the shelf:

Brake Best part number H1338-2
