what year for gas doors

I have a 1978 Silverado that I thought had the original short bed on it but mine has the outside gas caps and it looks like other 78s I see have the gas doors. What year did GM make the change? Was it a mid-year model change? When I ordered all my new gas tank hoses, I got the correct ones ordering as a 1978. Thanks

Interesting. They probably had some old beds to use up early in the year.

79 is what I thought. So maybe I am ok on thinking original for 78. Not a big deal just I like to know everything I can about my truck.

I have an early production 1978, late production 1978 and a 1979 - both 1978's do not have doors, the 1979 does - all have original beds and the late production 1978 has the 1979 style hood

Re: what year for gas doors

'78 last year for no doors. '79 first year for doors. I remember, I lived through those changes.
