Is a fuel pressure regulator necessary? ( original post in general forum)
I have a 1972 Chevy C/10 with a stock 250 CU and factory carb (nothing exotic). It has a "milesmaster fuel pressure regulator" inline, just before the Carb. It has threaded fittings, but I don't know if it is stock or not. It is leaking fuel and the liquid inside looks very bad (I'm cleaning it after posting this). Is it necessary to run a fuel pressure filter inline like this? The fuel pump is a standard mechanical pump.
I've now cleaned it and it looks better. I expect the gasket has dried out and may still leak. There was water and rust in the glass bowl. |

No, not needed and not original. The only use I have for them is on a 4wd to manage fuel delivery on rough and tilted terrain. Keeps fuel flowing steady in spite of the float bobbin around

You should keep it. It will triple your fuel economy... in fact, it will be so good that you'll need to drain fuel from your tank.
Just kidding, of course. If you need a paperweight in your shop, it should do the job.

That's one of those gimmicks sold back in the day to "improve mileage". It won't do that. I'd toss it and run a line straight from the pump to the carburetor. Do you have a filter in the carburetor?
