Differences fleet side box 60/62 vs 63/66?

Have what I believe to be a factory 61 4 x 4 that looks to have a fleet side box that does not fit/bolt to the frame in the factory location as it should. Wondering if I have a later 63/66 fleet side box here. Is there a difference between early and late 60/66?

The rear portion of the frame is wider on the 60-62 than the 63-66.

Exactly my experience. Any idea of the rest of the holes in the frame versus box ahead of the axle?

I'm not sure what you are asking.

Re: Differences fleet side box 60/62 vs 63/66?

I noticed the box is not bolted to the frame at all at the rear portion because the holes-mounts from the box do not match the frame as you described. Just curious if the frame width is the same 60-66 AHEAD of the axle - if wider 60-62 frame is JUST The rear portion of the frame? Thanks,

I believe the rails are parallel from the back of the cab to the back of the bed. The frame rails taper noticeably under the cab.

This is my '62 frame, maybe you can tell the difference, I have no comparison

The very last crossill
(under the tailgate) has a wider mounting point for 60-62. If your current sill is too narrow, you either need to modify it to fit or purchase one for a 60-62.

Re: Differences fleet side box 60/62 vs 63/66?

The rear cab mounts line up fine for all 60-66. The frame gets wider somewhere under the bed for the 60-62.
However, several on these forums have made newer or older beds and cabs work on either frame.

No.

The frame tapers from the engine bay through to under the cab on the 60-62, and is parallel from the cab wall back.

The frame tapers in the engine bay to the firewall on the 63-66, and is parallel from the firewall back.

Because the frame continues tapering under the cab on the 60-62, the rear parallel frame rails are further apart.

These pictures are very helpful. I had no idea how complex the 60/62 torsion bar frame/chassis is compared to the 63+ . I would call that a Sherman tank frame! It does give a good visual of all of the bed mounting pads that I can compare to my own. The 4 x 4 frame as you might expect is totally different, but I bet the portion behind the cab is exactly the same as 4 x 2.

Re: Differences fleet side box 60/62 vs 63/66?

Take a look at Harald's frame and notice the two holes on the cross sills above where they mount to the frame. Then take a look at the two holes on the cross sills above where they mount to the frame on my 63 frame circled in blue. Notice how on the 60-62 frames, the cross sills mount to the frame using the outer holes on the mount pad and the 63-66 frames use the inner holes on the mount pad. I'm thinking the only crossmember you will have an issue with is the rearmost one with the different mounting style.

Of course, if someone who has a bed apart currently could confirm this with measurements, that would help a bunch.

Although not the greatest picture, the second one shows a 63-66 frame stacked on a 60-62 frame. You can see the difference in width at the rear isn't a large amount

.
I could have sworn my 65 cab rear mounts bolted right up to my 62 frame. But it's been a long time. Thanks for the correction.

Yes. They do.

The location of the bolt holes is the same, but the physical mounts on the frame will be different.

The front cab mounts don't line up, but I think replacement front cab mounts have holes in both places.

That explains it. Thanks
