Gmc 1977 mirror id help
I just purchased a 1977 GMC 15 "HeavyHalf" I want to get rid of the ugly add-on mirrors and go back to stock. All I have to go by is the original mounting area shown in the pictures. None of the sport mirrors that I can find mount up to my existing plate. My 2 bolt mounting area is 2 3/4" center to center of holes Do any of you have an idea what mirror would work (and if they are available)? I'm sure the 2 existing threaded holes are original to the truck. Thanks!

Re: Gmc 1977 mirror id help
Congrats on having a Big10. I'm no help on the mirrors as I have towing mirrors.
Here's mine.

Re: Gmc 1977 mirror id help
This is off my 75 when I swapped out for a set of Dumbo mirrors. (Had a boat at the time and wanted mirrors with better trailer vision.)
The black rusty piece mounts inside the door. May be a screw for the oval shaped hole, not sure. The black plastic piece mounts on the outside and is keyed by a projection that fits into the 3rd hole in your pic #2. The bare metal piece is held in place with two screws through the door(the 2.75 inch apart holes) and screw into the black metal piece(sheet metal type screws, no nuts.) May have been hex head. The mirror is held in place with a single screw that goes into the rear and then into the bare metal piece. IIRC - my screws were damaged/twisted to destruction during mirror removal. They weren't in the zip lock bag with the rest of the parts. No clue about current availability of all the parts. Hanging on to mine in case I decide to revert to original configuration at some point. |

Re: Gmc 1977 mirror id help
Hello frenchy51
Funny but I have been looking for mirrors that fit the plastic mount that I have on my Doors. Also a 77 c20 3/4 ton Could you tell me the brand and type that you have on your truck as in the first picture. I would like to buy a set so I do not have to put more holes in my Doors for a set of west coast OR any other aftermarket mirrors. Thanks |
