Fuel Cell Question?
Hey Guys I Bought a Custom Aluminum Fuel Cell. The Cell Has A Few 1/2 Ports at The Bottom of The Tank and One on The Top With a 3/8 Feeder Tube Going Into The Tank. Mechanical Fuel Pump on a SBC.
Which Port Should I Use To Run My Fuel Line To? Any Recommendations on Thread Sealants? Thanks Last edited by Dodge68charger; 04-19-2022 at 08:46 AM. |

If you are putting the fuel cell under the bed I would connect the fuel supply to the top side. If you are mounting it in the bed the bottom connection might look better. I use Permatex 80019 Avaition Form-A-Gasket. It is the only product II found that says it’s gasoline and oil resistant. It’s designed for machined surfaces and threaded fittings.

If there is only one fitting on the top I suspect it is the tank vent and if that is true it isn't going to have a internal tube to the bottom of the tank.

Many fuel cells have a internal sump area where baffles help keep the fuel pick up surrounded with fuel. As these are general used in racing applications in conjunction with rotary fuel pumps which like to have a flooded suction. Mounting rotary pumps low with the suction line in the bottom of the tank improves the reliability of the pump and improves the uninterrupted supply fuel. Your fuel cell with 2 ports was designed with this in mind. Two ports allows the use of dual fuel pumps.
If you're not planning on racing the truck then using the top suction line would be fine. If you are planning on some drag racing or autocross then using the bottom suction port would have advantages. I would check with the manufacture of the tank to confirm that an internal sump was installed in the tank.
