Clean proportioning valve HELP / SETUP
Hi all,
I have a 1977 Chevy C20. I just put in a new master and new vacuum brake set up. I also threw on a GM14 bolt disc brake conversion kit from RuffStuff Specialties. https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/R2262-A.html (** If you did this kit as well and you need emergency brake cables, get these: https://www.performanceonline.com/19...ke-Conversion/ **) The rear disc brakes are not engaging. I adjusted them 2 times. still not engaging. I want to upgrade a new proportioning valve that I can adjust. Has anyone done this on a square body? The reason I ask. I do not want to just select a random one from Summit and throw it in. I want a decent one, but more importantly, I want a clean and easy way to install it. I do not want to cut corners, I want it to look clean. So I figured I would ask to see what others may have done on their projects. Thanks!! |

Has your proportioning valve tripped?
You might not be getting any brake fluid to the rear. |

Re: Clean proportioning valve HELP / SETUP
I'm not sure. but is the factory one adjustable?
I am getting fluid. When I started the project, the master was dry and I bench-bled it and then bled the brakes and I got fluid to all 4 corners. But when I apply the brakes, there is no pressure in the rear, so the pads do not engage. I have the truck on my lift right now. in the air (2" off ground) I put the truck in drive and revd to 2k rpm. Applied brakes and the rear hubs kept spinning. would not slow down. I can see marks on the rotor where the pads were engaging a little bit, but they were not biting. |

Re: Clean proportioning valve HELP / SETUP
Okay. I just watched a video online. Maybe it did trip.
I installed the kit the first time and then put the truck on the ground and drove it to another part of my parking lot to bleed the brakes. At this time, the front brakes section of the master had brake fluid. The rear brake section of the master was dry... I am thinking that the proportioning valve tripped when I moved it. Hence why I still have no brake pressure in the rear, but the front brakes work great. how to reset it? |

Re: Clean proportioning valve HELP / SETUP
Does RuffStuff suggest changing out proportioning valve when going from disc/drum to disc disc? I am pretty sure the rear disc require more pressure then drums. Those look like the rear discs that are on my 79 TA, if so they adjust/ratchet closer to rotor by cycling parking brake.

Re: Clean proportioning valve HELP / SETUP
Agreed on probably being tripped, they make a tool that holds it centered while bleeding
Also agree you need a disc/disc master setup...if you dont have one already
