Re: Long Bed weight????
Floor repairs, as you know, will require some scrap pieces from another bed.
The reveal around the wheel well needs to be good. I have a similar long bed with the same rust and I would not let it go for that. Hope that helps. I cut them down and keep some floor scraps back for just such repairs.

Re: Long Bed weight????
There is a significant crease on the lower rear passenger side. The metal is stretched, so it will need to be cut or metal shrunk to get it straight again. The rest seems pretty straight. Actually the inside is really dent free. They must not of hauled much with it.
How are the top of the bed rails? If you have to pay a body shop to make that bed perfect, I think you would be better to wait until a better one shows up. That one is good driver quality. Too bad the tailgate is missing.

Re: Long Bed weight????
You will need no less than 4 men to move this and they better be in good health. Or have 3 really strong dudes but still that's a lot for 4 people. I've moved three beds with four men and a 10' move barely happened the last time. I paid 400 for a bed a few years ago in comparable shape it looks like assuming the floor doesn't have any rust through.
Bed prices just went up and so did shipping in the last few months. I was going to order a new bedside till I saw the price.

Re: Long Bed weight????
I would build a wood beam out of 2" by 8"s to sit under the bed rail and use an engine picker. Pick it up 3' then drive a trailer or flat bed under it and haul it away. That is how I removed mine. I bet its at least 400#s.
Without a crane, bending over and getting it off the ground is the tough part. With two, you might be able to stand it on end and back a flat bed up to it and carefully lower it back onto the bed. Then use three people to pick up the other end still on the ground and slide it farther onto the bed. You think 4 people for 400#s, that is only 100# per person. Nope, only if you are perfectly balanced and coordinated to lift exactly at the same time. It is usually 100# plus all the force fighting each other from not going up at the exact same time or forward movement so add another 100# of jerky forces. You could call a tow company and ask them how much to pick it up onsite and move it to your trailer or truck bed onsite. Be worth a $100 to me to not have to try to round up another 3 guys, pick them up, drive them, and feed them and beer them to get their help, then drop them off at home.

Re: Long Bed weight????
You did good and nobody got hurt. You can piece mill parts off your old one and patch away. If you really watch your self you can retain your org paint with a little blending. Ive got a friend that raises 75-100 acres of tobacco each year. He has a 72 Cheyenne bed-trailer that he hauls when they set it. Ive offered him a grand for it and even told him I would put another bed on it and still pay the difference. The thing is nearly perfect. He wont turn it loose. Good day for you all around. Congrats.

Re: Long Bed weight????
Well done!
The new bed is not perfect, but way better than original, and same color? You should have no problems repairing this one!! |
