Valve cover torque #
What pound torque should the valve covers be? My overhaul manual says 50 #'s, but that seems pretty tight. I just got to 10# and it was scaring me a little, so I stopped.
They are the moroso valve covers. thanks Ron

I put my valve covers at 20 to 25 in pounds. I would not use foot pounds thats way to high. IMO

Absolutely not! 50 lbs is way way way way tooooo much torque for a 1/4-20 bolt.
5 maybe....

cdowns,
Can you explain that in english for the mechanically inclined person that I am, that has not had a lesson of torquing things down? I hope I did not damage my covers (but if I did, then i could tell my wife they are ruined and buy the Chevy ones I have been eying at Jegs.) thanks for your help Ron

divide the 50 inch pounds by 12 to get foot pounds (about 4-5)
12 inches per foot, simple as that.

If you overtorqued them and did warp the flanges, you just hammer them flat again with a small hammer and a flat surface.
No biggy.

I dont know how many inch pounds mine are at but for stuff like that I like to use a straight driver handle and turn it tight, never a problem.
