"Scroll" compressor

My 83 A/C isn't working, has a leak at the crappy R4 compressor.

I know the R4's are considered crap, but has anyone used one of these redesigned replacement "scroll compressors"

They advertise them as being redesigned to not leak like the original R4 compressors.

Anyone have any experience with them?

I know the Sanden upgrade is another alternative, but looks like this one would be a direct swap vs having to buy brackets, etc.

Found some threads that don't paint the scrolls in a very good light. Looks like they require high RPM"s to cool well, which isn't how I drive this truck, so will have to figure out how to fit another compressor.

Oh well, worth a shot.

One of the more renowned compressors is the York compressor. That won't be a bolt-in deal though.

Yeah, my Jeep CJ's have Sandens that are supposed to be the other great alternative.

I've found a few brackets to mount a Sanden to the SBC, but most are for serp belts only.

Were I to swap a Sanden onto my 305, and wanted to keep the Vbelts, anyone know of a bracket that will make bolting it on easy?

And of course, I'd have to have new lines made as well (from what I've read nosing around online). Of course, with the original lines being 40 years old that's probably a good idea anyway.

The early Jeep CJ's used Yorks. A lot of people love converting them for onboard air compressors.

I think I have one around the shop somewhere from a late 70's CJ. I wouldn't risk using it on a truck for A/C though. It's been sitting wherever it currently is since the mid 90's when I got it with a parts Jeep after I rolled mine over.
