Best air flow in non AC trucks tricks
I am still working on getting my AC sorted out in the 79, so no AC yet. I went to the junkyard the other day and almost died of heat stroke, it was so hot in the afternoon and I did not bring any water. Anyway jump in the truck after paying for my junk after downing a bottle water from the vending machine. Anyway does anyone have a secret combo to max airflow in truck cab without AC? I usually open side vent windows, bottom vent doors and rear slider but that makes a lot of wind noise. I have also opened all the windows, vents, rear slider and bottom vents but air does not directly flow towards me. I think my best combo so far is passenger vent window, rear slider halfway open and the drivers window down about 6". The passenger side vent window seems to create a strong vortex of air.......well hot air but still air right at me.

Re: Best air flow in non AC trucks tricks
i have no rear slider, but most times its just both windows rolled down and the vent windows cracked ,,not fully open...a gigantic junebug taught me that lesson one day..
ricocheted off the vent and knocked me in the head

In Texas, there is no best airflow other than AC with 100 plus temps. It is hot as hell without it!!!

The doors do come off on these trucks. In most areas, there's no legal requirement to have doors installed.

Re: Best air flow in non AC trucks tricks
No magic combo. The AC in mine is barely operational due to leaks in the 20+ year old hoses and compressor. Current thought is some variation of a Sanden compressor and convert to R134.
You want to be among the folks that open the salvage yard in the morning. You have a couple of hours before baking time starts. Wide brim hat and white shirt help. I don't have a rear slider but as you have found, a partially open door window seems to flow more air to you. A cold drink helps if you have a safe way to carry one as does a large towel to wipe off sweat. |

Re: Best air flow in non AC trucks tricks
IIRC, you can spin the vent window around til it's pointing at you. Hard to get more air flow than when it's out there catching the wind and funneling it in to you. Funny though, haven't done that in a long time.
