Replacing a fender - where should I be looking to buy? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I want to replace a front fender on my '63 SWB. (a neighbor backed into it) Quality and proper fit are paramount. Is there a difference between what LMC offers and say Classic Parts of America? Should I be looking elsewhere? Any experiences or guidance would be appreciated.

Also, should the new fender be shot with primer if it's going to be outdoors (rain and snow) over the winter? If so, what primer do you recommended.

An old used one "fits" better than any aftermarket does from what I understand - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=691616
Maybe someone else has had better luck with a certain name brand.

I bought a set of new fenders for my 61 from LMC which I'm sure are stamped with every other aftermarket fender, although I could be wrong. I haven't bolted them on yet but the front where the two pieces meet have a huge gap. I'll try to post some pictures later of it. I'll probably put them on my 62 and either fix an original off another truck or try to keep talking a friend out of an nos set he has.

Thanks Rocknrod and 62C30. It sounds like aftermarket fenders are not so great. I'll start searching around locally for an original fender. If anyone reading this happens to have a decent original front passenger side fender they'd part with, please give a shout.

Per the rules here a thread can't turn into a WTB. However there is Aspen Truck Parts in Arizona and a place in Kansas I can't think of the name. I'll look for it. I'm sure however there are people here from WA who have a line on good used ones.

I have taken a fender that was damaged in the front and one that was damaged in the rear and made a good one. I made my cut line right above the wheel, bolted both clean halves to the truck and stitched it up slow and easy with spot welds. Then a little grinding, a little bondo...it looked pretty good. I could still see it, but I knew it was there. l also gave it a patch panel for the "rust pocket" too.

I always forget about that place but I talked to him once about a part a couple of years ago and really didn't get anywhere. I would like to go look around there. Thank you

If you can’t findoem, i’ve found Counterpart versions best. Got one at classic, but you have to specify
