81 K20 Thermostate 160

anyone using a 160 thermostate

81 k20, hot weather SW desert truck, aint running a stat presently, moving to PNW

Any preference on the Rock Auto , 'standard, performance, heavy duty, premium' choices?

Im thinking 'standard replacment'

Re: 81 K20 Thermostate 160

Standard replacement should be fine but I would run at least a 180 deg stat.
The engine wears more if you run it to cold.
I'm dating myself here but Smokey Yunick did a study or article years ago showing the different wear characteristics on the diff stats.
The only advantage to using a cooler stat is cooler denser air for slightly more power.
My .02 cents.

I would also run a 180 T-stat. I prefer the Robertshaw high flow “edge seal” thermostats.
