OK, truck problems

Ok, so heres the deal, a couple weeks ago im comin home from a 20 mile 1 way trip, and the truck starts popping, sounds like a backfire from carb ors omethin, but its not, and it will barely pull itself over 40 mph, well i pull into town, and stop at a stop sign and it dies, really hard to start....it turns and turns and turns, finally fires and i gotta struggle to keep it running. so i get it home park it and go out later and its fine, then couple days later does it again, then stops, meanwhile this popping is continuing, not as bad, but at high rpms, liek when you rap it out or try to go down a highway, then tonight im drivin and it dies really hard to start again, get it started go downtown, dies, won't start. so me and a buddy push it into a lot and let it set for a while come back, it just turns over turns over turns over, nothing, what do you think any of that is???sorry for hte long post, but i need help, its startin to make me mad, i thought maybe fuel pump???i already changed filter..
thanks,
kevin

mine did something like that once and it was the accelerator pump in the carb was sticking. Next time it does that try tapping the carb (if its a roch) up by the front drivers side of carb. I'm not a motor head but that was my problem.

If this truck still has points, they may be shot or out of adjustment. Also check condition of distributor cap and rotor.

the first thing i'd check would be the fuel filter at the carb and also in the tank.as well as the rubber fuel lines from the body to the frame
hope you ran a new wire to the hei eliminateing the old resistor wire

Water in the gas will do this too - I'd check that to make sure as well.

I took my newly restored 1972 truck in our hometown parade and it flooded itself out and died!!! We had it worked on and finally fixed it. It was really embarassing, I had this beautiful 72 truck and it didnt even make it through the parade!!!It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me in the truck. A bunch of people from the crowd came and helped push it into someone' driveway nearby.

check the fuel filter too, thats another thing that went wrong with my truck, the tank sat empty for a long time and filled up with rust. We went through three fuel filters in the first month!
