Question Bagging a 83 or Similar year
Question Bagging a 83 or Similar year.
How low can I get it (assuming bagged) without a Body Drop? Also, willing to lose or redo front inner fender and rear tubs. I finally have a line on something in my range and not too busted up that I'm hoping to be able to pick up in a week or so. I have a lot of the stuff already to bag it, like: 4 Slam Specialties Bags 8 SMC valves (a big box of fittings) Roll of airline Switch box (will get a different one) 2 via Air 450C Compressors Dakota Digital Gauges 1 4 position to show each corner, 1 single for the tank Pressure Switch 2 water traps a 12 Gallon, 8 port tank, not sure of its condition anymore and some other do-dads... Roll of 4 Gauge Power and Ground for the Compressors. I was going to bag a lowered S10 Blazer, but kinda lost interest in it. I've always wanted to do a Squarebody or 67-72... Anyone want to post pics of their bagged, but not body droped Square body for inspiration, that'ed be sweet!!! Thanks -SMullen |

Re: Question Bagging a 83 or Similar year
The below is for the front drop. The rear is easy, and depends on the more costly front.
You can bag it up to a 3 inch drop. Add drop spindles you 2.5 more inches Pancake the crossmember 1.5" with a tie rod flip. More if you use heim joints. You can Z the frame for 2.5" before oil pan mods come into play. Although I have seen 4 inches it did involve body mods. So depending on your financial status, and tools available. It ultimately decides your total drop. I once did the welding for a kids truck at my old house where we dropped the front 6" with drop springs, pancaked cross member, and Z'd frame. For the rear we removed the front hanger, and moved it up. Then flipped the axle, and shackle. Once done he was at a 6/8 roughly, and we had $150 in materials for the work. Plus another $250 for a driveshaft. Mind you I made $500 from that work, and he had 4 friends helping alot of the time. So the pizza bill was another $150. The result was he was lower then he hoped, and all the work took 4 days. 2 days to pull engine, and reinstall. 2 days for work. |

Adding spindles & other mods get it lower.
