This is NOT a 72 Chevy

I was at the mini mart across the street ... I went up to the driver and said; "Nice - 65?" The driver (19 0r 20 yrs old) "nope - I thinks its a 72. Its my friends truck"

My chuckle for the day.

PS: Wasn't sure where to put this but it mentions a 72

Re: This is NOT a 72 Chevy

My own personal gas station story from this week was when I was filling up my GMC. Guy says, hey, nice truck, its a 72, right?

I was genuinely surprised that he was correct, this guy must really know his trucks, I think to myself, maybe he's on the 67-72 forum too!

No doubt, I mused, he recognized the one year only door panels (drivers door was open) or the rear view mirror!

I say yes it is, how did you know?

He smiled knowingly and says "'cause it has DUAL headlights, of course: that's how you know it is a 72!"

Uhh, yeah, you nailed it buddy. I just smiled and told him to have a great day.

Re: This is NOT a 72 Chevy

Shoulda asked him if it had the numbers matching Coss Fire injection or the turbofire 383, or maybe the V6. Cuz those models didn't have power windows and are faster.

While sliding in or out, you can "knock your knees" on the lower A-pillar that wraps around the to area where you enter or exit.

Thanks....Now that you pointed it out, I know exactly what you are referring to.

Had never heard that term before.

60-63 have the cutout in the door for the windshield/A pillar. 64-66 don't.

If my friend was so dumb that he thought it was a 72 I would never loan it to him. He obviously doesn't appreciate it.

Re: This is NOT a 72 Chevy

You know, in his defense, Chevy was guilty of carrying body styles over with very minor detail changes. Of course a decade off is unacceptable. I will admit, I have trouble with the 69-70 and have to lots of times do a double take on the 71-72. At least he knew it was a chevy.

He seemed like a good kid ... he just wasn't into old trucks - but agree if I was driving that Chevy I would want to know the year.

Re: This is NOT a 72 Chevy

My brothers were once pulled over in a 65 C10, and the cop proceeded to tell my brother, he knows its a 76.

It was in California and the smog cutoff is 75. Had to wait for his superior to drive out and clear up the matter.

To preceed this; one of them was making doughnut jokes loudly and obnoxiously while at a stoplight next to the cop.

Moral of the story: Sometimes people DO know the year of the vehicle, and just like to mess with others.

Re: This is NOT a 72 Chevy

Probably just needed a truck for some sort of task. No reason to care what year it was, especially if he wasn't an old car or truck guy.

Ive been on this board forever and I still don't know the difference between a 69 and a 70. I had a 69 once but only for parts and the grill was smooshed anyway. My panel is a 69 but had no nose on it when I bought it. 68 nose now.

Of course it isn't. The rear view mirror isn't glued to the windshield.

I can't tell the difference between a 69 or a 70 either.

I have to look at the rear view mirror on a 71 or a 72 if I see one passing by.

And I retract my statement about loaning it to him He probably is a good kid that just needed a truck. I would have loaned him my truck if that was the case. Not everybody knows theses trucks.

Last week I had a coworker ask me if I liked the '63 GTO. I said "no, I'm pretty sure '64 was the first year".

Re: This is NOT a 72 Chevy

A buddy and I once saw a guy washing his 55 chevy. My buddy tells me that it was a nice 57. I say, no its a 55. We argue until I get so frustrated that I drive over and ask the guy washing to tell my buddy what year his car is. He correctly says 1955, my buddy replies with no, its not, its a 57. Im like dude, its his car.

Re: This is NOT a 72 Chevy

He's just a kid. Last year I attended a car show for a change. An all-knowing Chevy guy had a "restored 72 Super". He was adamant the 71 mirror was on the windshield and the 72 mirror was on the headboard.

I don't know the difference 69-70 either. The inner grille is different, but can't speak to why.
