67-68 Lower trim / Mar-K / Classic parts ?

I've been looking at the 67 lower trim suppliers and Noticed the wide gap in pricing between Mar-K and Classic parts . I'm having a hard time believing there are multiple manufactures of these kits . I need to order soon to mock it all up before painting my 67 . Anybody use either of these or see them at one of the shows if you did what was the difference ?

I know Mar-K makes their own in Oklahoma and I am betting there is at least one overseas supplier. I would call Some of the others and ask if their set is made in the USA. Mar-K makes quality stuff....

Re: 67-68 Lower trim / Mar-K / Classic parts ?

I second what lockdoc says, Mar-K made in USA and all others are somewhere overseas.

I bought the Mar-K, but they don't make everything needed for a full trim truck. They don't make the strip across the front of the hood and I couldn't find one that wasn't crap.

In their full trim kit the 3 pieces across the top of the tailgate, they sent import pieces.

I'd love to see a comparison of how the Mar-K and import pieces compare... the Mar-K fit really well, but there was still some finesse needed to make it work. Some of the clips Mar-K provided were not optimal in my opinion and I ended up trimming or reordering different ones. Their clips may have been fine if I was having to drill all new holes, but the truck I was working on had all the factory trim.

I want to add they had a discount code on Instagram for 15% off no minimum using code 'hotsummer15' this morning.

I would not order from their website. I had a great experience calling them to order and beating them up a little bit on their shipping cost.

Re: 67-68 Lower trim / Mar-K / Classic parts ?

I ordered some from Ecklers (ClassicChevy.com) and with shipping I got it for $659.01. I ordered it last week. I used a discount code, its the cheapest I was able to find the 67/68 trim kit. I've already received it, haven't installed, but looks to be good quality.

Re: 67-68 Lower trim / Mar-K / Classic parts ?

Here is the packaging materials the Mar-K use. Cardboard, with a wood frame and eggcrate foam.

Here's a pic of the passenger side fender trim with the bags of hardware Mar-K sends...

I guess it's not a great picture since I'm missing a screw in the front. If I recall, this is one of the pieces that needed some finessing to get into place.

I got the washers you sent today. I'm putting them on this door panel...

Re: 67-68 Lower trim / Mar-K / Classic parts ?

I would be so tempted to order the kit from Ecklers to see how it fits. Seems like the brightness of the Mar-K trim is superior to the import pieces that I have on my truck. Since Mar-K doesn't make the grill trim or tailight bezels I had to use some import pieces...

I'll post some pics of the Eckler trim this evening when I get home.

Another zoomed in pic of the same fender with the trim all the way installed...

I have also heard, the paint Mar-K puts in the groove on the trim is superior to the import stuff...

Re: 67-68 Lower trim / Mar-K / Classic parts ?

Here are a few pics of the 67/68 trim kit I received from Ecklers. It is shipped in a big box with a smaller box inside. Could have been more padded, but both boxes don't have any damage issues and I don't see any problems with trim

It is counterpart brand, which I ordered about 5 or 6 years ago from the truck shop for a 68 truck I had at the time. Did not have any issues with the trim when I ordered it from truck shop and don't think I will have any problems with this trim kit.

Im sure Mar-K is good/top quality, but me personally would not spend an extra $600 for something that can't be that much better, except being made in the USA which I would spend a little extra for, but not $600. Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: 67-68 Lower trim / Mar-K / Classic parts ?

I bought two counter parts bed upper moldings for my 72 fit was ok not great and they were very light and only the glue on clips no push in clip for the front or back of the mounding . For my daily driver it’s fine and they dulled to match the 50 years old originals in short order . I looked at set of Mar-k a guy had at the Carlisle truck show this year. You can see a marketable difference in the quality and they were much heavier . If I was redoing a truck I would use Mar- k the $400 difference is neglable on a restoration it’s way more expensive to try the cheaper option and not be happy with the outcome. If you order from Summit you only pay the oversized cost .

Re: 67-68 Lower trim / Mar-K / Classic parts ?

I'll be ordering the mar-K trim thru Summit , My 67 has changed from a clean up project to a full blown ground up period restoration custom build , Just the truck I would have liked to have 40 years ago , Let's just say project creep took over years ago and continues to rear it's head almost daily "Oh, that looks good , Oh, that's a cool idea " It's only time and money ! I've got plenty of time ... So, I'm always looking for quality parts on a deal . This trim is one of the last things I NEED to buy and I should have bought it years ago before the price climbed to twice what I originally paid for the whole truck .

I’m glad I am redoing a stepper no moldings except the hood and brow .

Re: 67-68 Lower trim / Mar-K / Classic parts ?

I used Mar-K about 12 or 13 years ago. I think it was the only option at the time and I was glad to get it. It was packaged as shown above very top notch box and parts inside. I was and still am happy with their reproduction trim. Those shown above also look very nice.

Yeah I went with Mar-k on my 68 and its top notch trim. Was well worth the money on my truck. Came crated up like shown above.

It will be a while before im to the point of installing the trim. Im just gathering things I know I'll need, and since prices seem to keep going up, im ordering now what I know I'll need later.

I installed the counterpart brand trim about 5 or 6 years ago on the 68 I had back then, I had purchased it from the truck and car shop. I have a few pics of the trim installed on that truck.
