Step notch for a '71, and keeping ladder bars - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Does anyone make a prefabbed step notch that follows the frame nicely for a 71? I need probably a 8" notch.

Also-
I would like to keep the ladder bars set up out back if possiable. I plan on boxing them and making new bag mounts out board of the originial coil location. I also think I may need to run a slight block. The question is, though - am I going to be able to make this work and lay out on a 295/30/22? Or am I going to have to get a four link instead. This truck is going to lay frame - I already have the front issues taken care of.

there is no prefabbed step notch for these trucks, only a small c notch. Mine had a step notch with 3 inch blocks and the original trailing arms and it would lay. I had to run that big of a block or the arms hit the frame before it layed out. I think if your going that low a 4 link is a good idea because of pinion angle problems with the axle mounted solid to the trailing arms.

I thought maybe Turner's madea step notch - but I can't find thier web site.

What size tire are you running? And does your truck lay out?

I emailed Turner Enterprises a while back and he said that they do make a StepNotch that fits the frame shape. try and call or email them. Be sure to let us know what you come up with...I'd like to step notch mine in the future

OK, here is what I found out...

KP Components make s a notch specifically for the frame, but I don't have the specifics on it yet. If you want more info I assume you guys are familiar with Larry @ Innovative Air Suspension - so give him a call.

Bill Turner also makes to different size step notches. The smaller one is 5-7 inches (I can't remember exactly what he said, it wasn't gonna work so I didn't pay any attention). The second is a 12 incher. That's right, twelve inches. Based on my measurements, to lay out on a rubber band 22" tire I'm going to need all of ten inches, so I'm going with the 12 just to be safe. The thing is going to be huge! I thought my 10" on my 78 was big!

Anyway, I hope tis helps some people out, and clears up any confusion that there may have been.
