Circuit Rider gets a free ride.
The other night there was gas under the engine which stunk up the house... the misses wasn't happy I called Hagerty and we took it the my favorite service location and we will see where its leaking gas. I'm thinking the fuel pump... then again it could be a gas line. One thing I know ... driving a truck while it is leaking gas is not a good thing

Re: Circuit Rider gets a free ride.
Smart move. A guy I used to work with had a '63 Dart with a slant 6 that had a fuel pump leak. He said he smelled gas. Pulled it into a bay (I worked at a gas station back then), opened the hood, and yes indeed he should have been smelling gas! The diaphragm in the fuel pump ruptured and it was spraying gas all over the place! Lucky it hadn't caught fire. A lot of the under hood was thoroughly degreased, to boot.

Re: Circuit Rider gets a free ride.
Another thing is a truck leaking gas anywhere is a bad thing. In a garage is really bad. At least you can smell it to let you know

Bad fuel pump ... it went from a fuel pump to a spray gun.
All is well.

Re: Circuit Rider gets a free ride.
Many years ago I had a '67 chevelle with a 396 . Wasn't running just right and I couldn't figure it out . Took it to a older much wiser car guy . He revved it up by hand at the carb and gas was spraying out of the fuel pump . Lesson learned ! Thanks

Re: Circuit Rider gets a free ride.
This is why the smell of gas makes me nervous. This happened up in Toledo Ohio a few years ago.

Re: Circuit Rider gets a free ride.
Cousin had a 1970 Chevelle back in the day . He always kept a fire extinguisher in it as he smelled gas . I suspect it was the fuel pump . Never did catch on fire luckily . Sadly I sold my '67 Chevelle many years ago . Thanks

Re: Circuit Rider gets a free ride.
The fuel pump on my 72 start leaking last time I was in Idaho. Coming out the fuel pump “weep” hole when running. Parked it. First sign was a smell of gas at a stop sign. It smelled of gas more than usual. . . At the time I didn’t feel like laying on my back in a wet driveway fighting the fuel pump rod. I have a love-hate relationship with those rods. Mostly hate!

Re: Circuit Rider gets a free ride.
You're welcome! I fought fuel pumps for years, and then learned it from another mechanic. Happy to pass along anything that helps people.
