221 transfercase change to 205
I'm changing my 221 out for a 205 I've read the posts but I'm confused, so I need to change the font and rear drive shaft or just rear? Plus I can't find a 205 shift lever for a 4 speed Manual. Looking for any help with these questions. This is for a 69 k10. Thanks

Re: 221 transfercase change to 205
I can’t help much with the front and rear shafts unfortunately, but any 69-91 GM 205 shifter will work with modifications to the floor. 71-72 shifters are the only ones in the 67-72 years that aren't transmission specific. I’ve scored a few on the parts board over the years for pretty reasonable prices. Make sure you get the shifter pivot bolt as well. It’s a special shouldered bolt that is NP205 specific. There’s a couple versions of it but the best are the square body bolts that are greasable.
Here’s a reference pic of a 70 only Mt shifter (bare metal) vs a 71-72 (black)

Re: 221 transfercase change to 205
Having happily and gainfully used a 221 for nearly 30 years now, I respectfully ask: why? I am curious as to what advantages you see in the 205 that make it worth the effort.

Re: 221 transfercase change to 205
It leaks oil from a bunch of places. I can't find parts for it.

Might be worth checking here if you need parts
https://torqueking.com/category/1967...transfer-case/ I just rebuilt my Timken/Rockwell T-32 transfer case in my '56 Napco and was able to locate the seals and bearings but I did have to make some gaskets and a bushing.

Re: 221 transfercase change to 205
That's where I got all the parts I could from. Can't get the seals I need. I made some gaskets it slowed it down but it still leaks a lot. They were a great place to work with. Thanks for the info tho.

Re: 221 transfercase change to 205
Meritor (who owns Rockwell) still has the parts book published on their site
https://graphicvillage.org/meritor/pb90172.pdf Seal dimensions are included as well as the Meritor part number, for instance rear output seal is A-1805-E-447, 2.5" OD, 1.75" ID, .77" wide. If the seal number isn't legible on your current/old seals this maybe the best way to find the correct seals. You may even be able to cross reference that Meritor number to a Timken (National) or SKF (CR) seal number. Using the SKF seal cross reference site, http://www2.chicago-rawhide.com/popu...kup_457012.htm , the seal above (entered as a1805e447) crossed to a SKF 17387. I was able to find the correct seals for my Rockwell T-32 and purchased them off EBay from Locate Ball Bearings.

Re: 221 transfercase change to 205
Thank you very much. This info is very helpful. I would like to keep it in there just want to keep the oil in it. Not on the floor and all over the frame.

Re: 221 transfercase change to 205
Just a update if it might help someone else. I found a complete seal kit from Pro Gear in Orlando Florida for my 221. Thanks for all the help.
