55-59 headliner retainer rubber options

Hey Everyone,

I ordered a Counterpart branded headliner retainer for my '58 and i really don't like the look of it. What bothers me the most are the thin lines that run the length of the rubber.

Are there any alternatives to using this one, or are they all the same?

Hopefully someone can help.

Thanks in advance

Adrian

I used black door edging. I don't have any pictures on my phone, but my build thread in my signature has plenty of pictures of my headliner and the edging. I posted the box and part number too.

I used pinch weld molding in place of the retainer. It's not as bulky looking and it's available in a variety of colors

Also, curious what material you used to attach the upholstery to? So it doesn't sag?
Thanks

Re: 55-59 headliner retainer rubber options

ogre used contact adhesive to attach the headliner to the roof using a $14 harbor fright spray gun. the ultrasuede is glued to 1/8" ensolite sound deadening foam, trimmed to fit and then glued to the roof. i spent a couple hours taping and papering the interior of truk to spray 3 minutes of glue on the roof

you can also see the black door edging in these pics and my ogre size head rests

Re: 55-59 headliner retainer rubber options

I plan to use chrome door edging on mine:

This ISN'T my truck but the headliner & sun visor color are very close to mine and the stitching is quite similar to my seat too.

Re: 55-59 headliner retainer rubber options

there isn't much extra room up there where the rubber goes
if you use much more than stock 1/16" headliner, stock rubber won't fit
i bought the headliner rubber that wouldn't fit, free to anyone for medium flat rate box
