Auto Trans Crossmember

Are the replacement crossmembers that only bolt to the bottom portion of the frame as strong as the pain in the butt factory one that bolts to the top and bottom of the frame? I wonder if the factory did this as an additional frame brace.

It might affect the torsional stiffness of the frame.
However, the effect should be minimal.
I used to drill out the rivets and replace them with bolts.
A lot easier to deal with than spreading the frame and hammering them in.
The later GM trucks had bolts in them from the factory.

Just a tip when relocating the factory trans crossmember - I used a longer drill bit to reach from the bottom to drill the holes through the top frame rail. It wasn't bad at all.

cars, corvette and camaro bolted in using bottom of rail only.
Never heard of a failure in this area.
The early C10 frames were built like a tank.
