Poll: What's your tool brand preference?

I've used Craftsman, S-K and some imports (Great Neck),
and generic ratchet and end wrench sets, etc.

I still try to seek out S-K tools when I buy, even though
there's no local dealer that I can find. Is there any
brand loyalty/preference anymore?

My brother uses MAC and in the past Snap-on, but he's has the
benefit of a MAC truck showing up at work. (He's a Toyota mechanic)

What brand do ya'll use and why? I use S-K for their good design
and chrome plating. I also started out with a pretty good investment
in a rachet set when I was 17 or so. They're U.S. made and use to
you could readily exchange them if you broke one. Can't find a local
dealer at the moment, but I'll check some more hardware stores.
Fortunately, I've only ever broken one, and it's been over 15 years ago.

I only use Snap-On, Mac or Matco tools at work.
At home it is mostly the same with some craftsman mixed in.

I have all brands in my tool box, still have the set of craftsman wrenches my dad bought me when I was 16. Thirty years of use and have not had any problems except for the occasional loss of the smaller ones. Other than that I have Snap-on, Mac, Craftsman, Matco, some Cornwell, and S-K. If I really had to choose between any brand it would be a tossup between Mac and Craftsman. Snapon has awesome tools but overpriced most of the time.

I prefer snap on, but with the whole starting over in a new job with a family to support thing has forced me to do most of my shopping at sears.

I use mostly Snap-on,Mac, or Craftsman at work. We used to have a Matco guy but we moved the shop to another town so now we only have Mac. I also have some specialty tools from Jims. They sell Harley tools. I have a couple Kent-Moore also, more Harley tools.

I paid the Snap-On man 100 bucks a week every week from 1991 to 1997. Needless to say, I have mostly Snap-On tools.

I forgot about Matco. I've also got a
Cornwell 1/2" ratchet socket driver but didn't know how common Cornwell is.

I buy mostly Craftsman, used Snap-On back in the past, but like kwmech said they were higher priced than I could afford.

...i prefer Wright especially there ratchets..but i'm a poor boy so i have mostly crapsman..which for the most part i have good luck but there 3/8 ratchets are just plain JUNK !!!...i know i've replaced mine 10 times..so now i just my Wrights and leave the Crapsman in the drawer

Craftsman and SnapOn is what is in my tool box, work bench and on the garage floor.

I have a little of most everything in my boxes. I usually go with Craftsman though just because of the problems I had with Snap On fixing their stuff and some of their absurd prices.

for my backyard mechanicin, I use mastercraft from canadian tire, there alot like craftsman, life time guaranteed, works for me, but of course I'd love to have all snap-on

I will buy any US brand that will replace the tool for free if I break it. I have a variety of Snap-on, Craftsman, and Husky tools.

Mostly Craftsman. Except for their ratchets and screwdrivers being crap, they are good tools. I've built up a stash of 4 or 5 extra ratchets so if I strip one I have back-ups until I can get to Sears. I'm kinda complusive about my tools, I want them all to be the same brand. My older off-brand tools go into a tool box I carry in my truck for emergencies.

I've got room to add about 6 more brands, once the server problems get
fixed. I've never done a poll before, so maybe I can't add? Here's what
I've got so far to add:


Matco, Cornwell, Husky, Wright, Blackhawk & Mastercraft



Will add as many as possible that seem to be fairly common.
I might take off Stanley (Walm-art) and Great Neck (Autozoned) if needed
for better brands.

I'm not familiar with Wright, Blackhawk or Mastercraft (Made in Canada?).
Maybe I should be. Nothing against anything made in Canada,
just some of the names aren't familiar.

I have a mix of snao-on and craftsman. When i was chasing crew boats all along the gulf coast as a diesel mechanic i only used snap-on. Now i work offshore as a mechanical technician and use what ever is on the platform im on at the time usualy snap-on or proto. At home i use mostly snap-on and some craftsman.

I use craftsman , but I broke a 1/2 drive ratchet and sears wanted to give me a used rebuilt one and their guarantee in the past was always if it breaks you get a new one. I guess they are getting cheap too and aren't staying with the same guarantee they had that made them famous in the past. If they're going to be this cheap in the future I'll buy my tools somewhere else. Buy the way they gave me a new one after I insisted to talk to the manager.

They are supposed to give you a choice of the rebuilt or new. The rebuilt ones are really as good as new anyway since the innards are all new.

I have all Craftsman. Thinking about getting some SnapOn, like their swivel ratchets, used one at a friends shop. Maybe I'll get one when $$$ stops getting dumped into the truck

MOSTLY ALL SNAP ON & MAC. I LIKE SNAP-ONs SOCKETS, RATCHETS, AIR TOOLS & BOXES BUT I LIKE MACs WRENCHES BETTER. I'M JUST A HOBBY MECHANIC, BUT I HAVE A TOOL FETISH. I'VE BOUGHT 99% OF MY TOOLS FOR PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR, EITHER AT PAWN SHOPS OR ON EBAY. I'VE PROBABLY GOT $25,000 WORTH OF TOOLS FOR LESS THAN $3500. I've had a 300 piece set of Craftsman. The ratchets are garbage.
Broke too many nuckles using them. Then bought a 300 piece
Husky set from Home Depot and wow, way better. The ratchets are almost the same design as( too expensive) snap-on. Very nice feel!!! And the box wrenches are the same castings as craftsman. The screwdrivers come out of the exact same mold as craftman drivers. At 20% less then craftsman and a life time (no questions asked) garentee. Husky tools are pretty good for the shade-tree mechanic
