Craigslist find in Florida (not mine)

Someone in Florida wants $1,500 for this 67 C20. They do not have a title but someone could buy it with a bill of sale and register it in Vermont, then get a clear title in their own state. As long as the vehicle is not stolen Vermont will register it in any state. I know because I recently did this myself with a vehicle that I bought in Texas.

Just curious as to how Vermont registers a vehicle in another state?

Re: Craigslist find in Florida (not mine)

Interesting.
I only paid 1700 for my 69 K20 4x4 but that was over 15 years ago. I drove it home. It was a licensed and currently registered Oregon truck.
Got it home, then the work began. This could be a good deal in current times. Myself I would just use the 1500 and the other thousands of dollars it will take to get this on the road and put the money towards a running truck.

I believe they will register a vehicle regardless of you residency. The car will be registered in VT but now you have paperwork to register in your state.

NY will do the same for residents . I've registered cars with no title a couple of times as long as its 72 and older NY doesn't issue titles to them . 73 and newer is a little harder as tittles are issued .

Re: Craigslist find in Florida (not mine)

Vermont will register a vehicle from any state even though you have never lived there.
Vehicles 15 years of age and older only require a bill of sale to be registered there. All you have to do is download their bill of sale form, their registration form, and their odometer form. When you buy your vehicle have the seller sign the required copies and you fill out the rest..
You then send these copies to the Vermont DMV along with your proof of insurance, and a cashiers check for the sales tax and registration fee. Within 4 to 6 weeks you will receive a set of Vermont license tags and a registration for the vehicle.
Most states will allow you to title the vehicle using the Vermont registration since it is considered a "title" there.
A word of caution though. A few states have stopped accepting Vermont registrations as titles. Check with your State DMV before even attempting this. You also must run the VIN on the appropriate website to make sure the vehicle was not reported stolen or has a salvage title. I have heard that Vermont does not do salvage title vehicles.
Vermont saved me from a title nightmare with the Blazer that I bought from Texas. Texas kept making me jump through hoop after hoop and just when I thought I was done, they kept pulling the rug out from under me again. So I just went with Vermont and saved a lot of unnecessary sadistic grief.

NICB is a great resource for checking VINs. They keep stolen vehicles in their systems many more years than most states do. https://www.nicb.org/vincheck
